What's the point of saying this? Really...I was comparing a Muay Thai kickboxer who's the same size as the football player, and like falcon3624 said, you are an idiot for assuming MT fighters are all small, skinny guys.

you prooved to be an idiot with that comment 741 ^

and falcon is an idiot alogn with alot of you for this
"I have had the oppotunity to go with a few buddies of mine that play football and sure they are strong and furious but against someone that knows what they are doing it is just not a match."

Strong.. and furious? Just because he plays football does not make him strong and furious. You guys are looking at the wrong positions.. Wide Receivers are not strong and forious or 6'ft and over 2 hundred pounds

Neither are RBs.. and QBs, and Corner backs, and free safety's

It all depends on the position of the footbal lplayer.. I stated it before but it just seems to be over looked

sure if you fought a football player who had the positon of lets say.. a Center.. Tackle... or Linemen they'd be big and ferocious.. they'd also be slow as hell

But you guys are talking about MT.. so toss a DB, WR, or CB in there.. and thats the deferense...

-shaking head- Stop overlooking comments with false accusations if your own

Not al lfootball players are strong and furious...

The name football player doesnt make them professional body builders.. if anything it just means most things wouldnt huirt them like the average person

Stated before.. these players pop pills for pain, and are hit 24 seven.. Where as a MT fighter isnt used to the type of hits these guys take

Its a stamina thing here if anything.. and i stated why before.. just stop over looking it

Theres something I wanna say I my self am a football player and I have been in alot of fights in my life time. I grew up in baltimore city not th county on some soft ass place but the inner city. I have been basicly fighting for my life since about the age of 10. I have played football dureing high school, starting tailback. I have been well over 150-200 fights. From tornaments to street fights. And I have had my ass handed to me. And I also have put many ppl in the emergency room. And size and strength doesn't matter.
I'm 5'6 150lbs. Yea i'm short and light and I can take out alot of ppl twice my size. So ryanhall, I'm gonna have to disagree with you about ur comments. And yes I'm very confident in my self growing up where I did if u r not confident in ur self u can lose ur life.

Lotta fights you've encountered? I've only had to chance to find myself in 4 street fights... I find myself talking my way out of most now because i've been boxing for some time ... I only get myself in more trouble by attempting t ostrike someone out of a sparring session, or competition

But thats beside the point. 150 - 200 fights, wow.... I just want to mention how you're a perfect example .. not all football players are Big and ferocious.. and Yeh i play tail back, LB for central high at 5''11" 202

Okay you are an idiot psyfered, when I am talking about buddies of mine that play football I am not talking about some little high school kid I am talking about guys who play at well respect colleges and guys that play football for a living. If you play football for a living it does not matter what position you play you have to be strong and furious or you don't make the cut.

No.. it DOES matter what position

THey arnt lookign for strong and furious Wide Receivers
They're looking for Fast, Intellegent, and have good hands.. wide receivers

it all depends on the position
.. My Cousin was just signed to the Kansas City Cheifs as a center.. because of being strogn and furious

While on the other hand.. thats because of his position... A friend of mine Charles Canty.. his brother Christopher Canty was signed 3 years ago to the Seahawks as a wide receiver.. because of his Routes, Speed, and hands.... He's very scrawny.. nothign strong and furious about him, but he's well confident

Now he's with the New Orlean saints as a Corner Back.. because of his Coverage ability, hands, and routes

it all depends on the position Falcon.. simple

Some positiosn require that strong and furious mentality.. others don't

                    What you really mean is:

What is better for winning fights?

                    a) being big and strong
                    b) being trained in martial arts

If you take someone of average size and build and make them play football for a year, then tale someone else of average size and build and make them train in fighting for a year then you can be sure of two things:

                    1) The first one will beat the second one at football
                    2) The second one will beat the first one in a fight

this isnt the movies.. a good fighter can fight, granted that they're a good fighter

But its the obvious.a person doesnt know how to fight they go all out.. grabbing.. slamming.. objects. just brawling

Brawling with the strength of a football player doesnt put the odds in they're favor

but i'm wrong here for assuming FOOTBALL player means "NFL" player..

Football player can be anyone... That could be a martial artist, who is o na football team, and so forth

WHo's to say the football player has no martial arts backround?

Look, we have had plenty of 300lbs. gigantic guys come in our BJJ class and try to come down and roll with us and some of our guys (me included) have went to a local gym that is nutorious for steroid use and grappled. Fact of the matter is the big guys that just try to brawl and have nothing more than strength to rely on usually find themselves in the guard of a much smaller and weaker fighter and before they know it they are gassing and then get tapped.

Last time I went I brought a buddy of mine that has limited experience in BJJ and he fought several guys that were huge and on roids and he lost to none of them. There were not many that he tapped but most of them took him down quick, got caught in his guard, stayed there for a few minutes, and then ended up gassed after a few minutes because they were fighting so hard to get loose. I myself am a big guy that spends alot of time in the gym and when I first went to my current BJJ class I found myself in the same position. I could go for a 3 min. round with anyone and not get tapped from pure strength but when it came down to doing a 10min. match I would gas out at about the 6 or 7min. mark and then get tapped over and over again.

Strength is furiousity are good things to have but to think that they will help you against a really truly good martial artist that knows what they are doing is just foolish. The big strong guy is going to become the victim of years of skill and hard work learning how to fight and he will loose.
