I was just wondring what the forum felt was more applicable in a streetfight? Football or martial techiques? To me this seems like a foolish question, but it is based on a similar thread on which this was disscussed.

Football vs. Martial Arts

I've only been doing Karate for a bit over a year now, and I recently got into a fight with a large rugby player, who has also done Wing Chun with the school for a few weeks. He was not able to hurt me at all, and I hurt him badly. He has avoided me ever since.

in general, i think most football players are stronger and more well conditioned. I played football, but I still got killed in BJJ. It would depend on the art. Arts that are designed for strength on strength aren't going to be much benefit because football players are going to be able to take and give hits because they are used to it. Boxers and such would be used to hits, but more popular martial arts don't really ever get the feeling of being hit. I think it's the same with wrestling.
The more you are used to a resisting (FULLY!) opponent, the more you can fight.

Aside from that, I can't believe this thread is actualy on an MA board and football has even one vote. Go figure, huh?

Football players have great attributes that can work for them if they know how to use them. More and more pro-football players cross train in the martial arts in everything from karate to JKD.
If you are comparing the average college football player and average karate guy, I'd go with football.
If you are comparing the average college football player with an average amateur fighter (wrestler, boxer, muay thai) I would say it could go either way.
If you are comparing the average college football player with a professional fighter (Chuck Liddell, Marco Ruas or Frank Shamrock) I would go with the pro-fighter.

If football players were to get good fighting technique, they'd be VERY hard to beat.. I mean, look at Bob Sapp. He's got terrible technique, and some guys still have problems trying to take him down.
Now the average football player is not Bob Sapp. But again, it depends on the martial art. You put a Muay Thai in a streetfight with a football player, and he may stand a chance. Especially if he's also versed in BJJ or something. However, you put in a purely BJJ guy or something, and I have a feeling he's going to get hurt....

I heard that Kimo was a former football player. Perhaps someone of his stature and athleticism is more like a football player - 6'2" 240??
If the football guy has no training and goes up against some one 5'11" and 190 who has solid muay thai and submission wrestling experience, I'd go with the fighter.
If the football guy does boxing or wrestling, I'd say that it would be one helluva fight to watch!
