I was looking for a way for me and my the boys to build strength and since there are really no gyms around here, thought I'd try Matt Furey's combat conditioning. What do you think of combat conditioning. Also I was think of ordering some more of his tapes. He talks about cool submissions like wrist locks and toe holds

Matt
I've got his combat conditioning book and love the exercises. The time saved as opposed to driving back and forth to the gym everyday is itself worth the book.
Plus I've noticed I've gotten strength endurance from his exercises and can use strength repeatedly without tiring. His exercises don't make me tight either like the weights do, and in fact have increased the flexibility of my spine.
Matt really has a great attitude towards teaching, and I think the price of the book is well worth the results.!

Wow: you went all out
I just got the book, and I'm not an expert, but her goes:
I do the royal court on non-lifting days, and on top of that I do a push-up, dips, and pull-up routine that is used to prep candidates for marine recon and the navy seals.
Ontop of the royal court I throw in the Karl Kotch bible, using only different types of pushups. Then I do the v-ups, and leg lifts behind the head.
If you don't lift, I do them everyday.

Zhoo, my point would be whether it is Mr. Furey's credibility or his connections which have allowed his writing career to flourish. I honestly believe that most good grappling instructors have their students do comparable excercises to his. Also Furey would probably rather not spar with any notable grappler because he would have too much to lose.

I've done a lot of research on Furey and one thing he does NOT do is talk a bunch of crap about how tough HE is. He only talks about how tough the workouts that he finds and makes available are.
He's full of hot air and he's a bigtime salesman, but he's got a lot of valid points. So please buy his books and videos now!

Does anyone remember his embarrassing theory regarding a Mark Coleman fight? It was called, "The pop off, mess up man" theory. The theory stated that Mark Coleman would lose because he would become overconfident of his previous wins. They published it on ADCC news. It was full of sh*t, even if Coleman had lost that fight. The fact that Coleman won made it even sweeter to see his "theory" go down in flames.

Matt's book is great because:
a) He teaching approach is very positive
b) The exercises can be done with no special equipment and in the privacy of your own home
c) Its inexpensive for what you get
d) The fundamentals (the royal Court) trains your entire body and I've noticed incredible changes to my lungs that I didn't get when just weight training
e) You get flexibility and strength at different ranges in your bodies extension
f) You can judge your progress easily by guaging how many repetitions you can do. I've also Started matts book 2-3 weeks ago and i'm already up to 500 hindu squats a day (not in a row! in a row i do 150).
Also I find a very positive approach to his teaching. Think about it its mentored by Karl gotch whose 75. Its exercises you can do in your old age. I feel young at 32 and full of potential when i realize that at 75 gotch can still master the exercises better than 90% of the population whose younger.
All in all, I'm actually thinking of saving up for the Combat Conditioning videos to see the exercises in action.
Matt may not be technically a great MA but I think he knows what he's talking about regarding conditioning.
Also, Its great not to be tight from the weights! Fantastic!

Question...
"If you don't lift, I do them everyday."
Is this feasible? Looking over his web-site, he says that his bodyweight exercises will leave you "seeing Jesus walking on water" or something like that, a statement which I interpret to mean that the workout will leave you feeling like a limp noodle. Shouldn't you give your body time to recover?
Anyway, I just ordered the book - thought it might come in handy when I don't feel like dragging my carcass to the gym.
Have you noticed any gains in muscle mass from following his routine? I'm a little sceptical about his claims that these exercises can replace weights, etc. but heck...the book is only $30...that's four pints of beer in some cities.
