In the first UFC a Muay Thai guy made it all the way to the final match with Royce. On the way there he suffered a broken hand and foot and for the most part had nothing left before losing to Royce. I can't remember if he tapped out or if he was choked out, either way a straight MT fighter did win a few fights.

The final bout of UFC 1 was listed as Savate vs. Gjj. Gerard Gordueau may have crosstrained, but it's only listed as Savate for his discipline.
In UFC 2, Patrrick Smith (listed as TKD) lost to Gracie in the final match.
UFC 4, Severn (wrestler) lost to Gracie at the end.
Are you talking about a pure Muay Thai fighter? I saw where somone listed as MT did win one fight but not someone who fought Gracie in the finals.

Lets not forget that the level of competition in the old UFC's is nothing like it is now. If were talking BJJ against amature boxers, and thai boxers, Kung fu and karate types. Then hands down bjj has it. Now days you can't pick one style and say it's the best. For fighters to be competitive they have to be good on there feet good, on the ground, and everywere in between.
I don't see how the UFC favors the BJJ guys. Unless you mean by not having the matches on concrete, or not having broken glass all over the floor of the ring. Thought I bet if the matches were on concrete they would not look all that much different.

Yeah, That's what I meant. Let's have the NHB fights on concrete and with piles of Broken Glass. How about some rusty metal barbed wire fencing as well?
You read my mind...
What I meant was that the Gracies organized the UFCs (the early ones) and this type of competition goes hand in hand with BJJ. An adversarial competition allowing strikes and grappling within a confined space. This is what the BJJ folks have been doing for years down in Brazil. So Royce had a huge advantage because he knew what to expect in the fights, knew that without time limits he could gas his opponents and they didn't have any knowledge of how to deal with the Gracie System.
Not taking anything at all away from BJJ or the Gracies, but everyone was fighting the Gracie fight because Royce knew how to compete in this environment and Royce knew how to force the opponent to fight his fight (a combination of his superior skill AND the environment in which they were fighting).
Now that everyone cross trains it relies more on the fighter than the fighting system. Everyone does a little bit of everything, so it all comes down to who wants it the most....
Again, this isn't taking anything at all away from the Gracies.

The BJJ guys did have the knowledge advantage back in the day because no one had heard of BJJ. No one in the US knew what a NHB bout would really look like. Remember the boxer that went into UFC #1 with one bag glove on. As for the enclosed space, that work both ways. I have often wished vale tudo and ufc matches could be held on an open field. How ofter have we seen guys holding on to the ropes or fence to stay on their feet. Though I think they made holding the fence illegal in the ufc this year.

What it really comes down to today is you have to be a good grappler and a good boxer to win. If you look at most of the top guys who win with a very few exceptions they are good boxers and good grapplers. Also Grecko Roman Wrestling is a tough style to fight because you can't take those bastards down or control them in the clench. I would say if you want to win, Box, Train in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu and train wrestling, both collegic and Grecko Roman. That's the formula to win right there.

None of the above.
Where is Ninjutsu? Ninjutsu holds one UFC Championship Belt via Steve Jennum. Sakuraba is essentially using Ninjutsu when he fights and he is a multiple Pride Champion with victories over all of the Gracie Family (Including Helio in a closed doors match).
I suggest you list Ninjutsu there if you are serious about your poll.
