I watched the show. It was pretty interesting, though I don't know how they determined the ranks.
However, I think they made a huge error with the omission of Judo. They showed some pretty minor arts (Kali, Juko Kai, Ninjutsu) which have FAR LESS followers and reknown than Judo.
BTW, I am bring back my post about Juko Kai since this show refreshed my memory of it's awesome powers.

The show was an embarrassment to the martial arts. They should not have had BJJ, the dogbrotheres and Thai Boxing sharing a show with the rest of that crap...Aikido ha...The Combat Ki guy should be brought up on charges as a bunco artist.
I missed the part with the Princeton Academy though

I was happy to see krav maga. A few of the others on there mainly juko kai and ninjitsu I don't know if they should be on there. By the looks of it juko kai is practiced in a controlled setting, how effective can that be? If you have to wait to summon up your inner power or whatever how good is that when your on a street situation where you can wait for something like that. Then what happens after you take the hit? Wouldn't it be better and more effective to dodge or evade the hit altogether? At least with that you have a chance to counter instead of waiting for another hit. I am kind of skeptical but I would like to know more about this art though does anyone know of any good sites or links about juko kai? I think the purpose of that show was to get a wide range of arts not just the most effective. At least the arts have got some recognition on tv.

Greets!
lol, phillyman!
How about,
however it turned is how the general population views the arts... media has power
(hows that for deep..lol!)
What could have been presented better, I wonder?
How should we be represented to the public? What do you want them to see that we offer..
any unity?
all deep, wheew! lol

Ultimately, it's a parlor trick. Nothing more spectacular than the stuff David Blaine does all week. It's just magic tricks, without the gay white tiger. Judo-Kai simply didn't belong on the countdown.
I disagree with the rankings as well. But remember that they aren't judging the arts based on combat effectiveness alone. Like the Dog Brothers stuff, for instance. It's really nice for the select few who are into that kind of thing, but really, how many people want to do full-contact stickfighting with minimal protective gear? Bumps, bruises, cuts and getting the wind knocked out of you are necessary parts of the training process...but broken bones? Split kneecaps, for crying out loud?
We all know that Olympic-style, WTF TKD will get you killed in a street fight, but I've seen that kind of sport competition enrich people's lives in many other ways. Think about this: If you live in a nice, middle-class suburb neighborhood, what are your chances of being mugged? Not all that likely. You're more likely to have high blood pressure, depression and all the things that come with not getting any exercise and having nothing to do but watch TV. TKD is the answer to that for a lot of people, so I think it's earned its place.
(Actually, to be honest...no matter where you live, what are your chances of getting into a stick vs. stick duel with someone?)
Y'know what I would've most liked to see on the countdown, preferably near the top of the list? REALITY FIGHTING. Sheesh, how much would it cost to fly out to the UK to see Geoff Thompson or Peter Consterdine? Or to Canada to talk to Tony Blauer? Everyone likes Tony Blauer.

Regarding Juko-Kai, a good quote comes to mind....
"Bricks no hit back." - Bloodsport
Also, and I know I am probably going to catch hell for this, but did anyone else have doubts about the "Dog Brothers Stick Fighting" as a martial art? Don't confuse my question here. This stuff is effective and looks pretty physically demanding. However, to me it just seemed like guys beating each other with sticks in a park.

I have no doubts about the the Dog Brothers stick fighting. (and they do more than just the stick fighting your saw there, that is just their main focus. Real live combat is never pretty. Not like the stuff on TV. It might look like they are just beating each other in the park, but a lot goes into what they do. stripping away all the fancy stuff to make it work, makes it look like what you saw there.
