Anyone else watched this video?? Any thoughts?

      Gi

When I'm grappling I prefer to have a gi. I have rolled some without the gi and don't like it. Arms get sweaty and are very hard to hold. Having a gi helps you to stick to them better. I wonder if that's what Royce was thinking?

OK....so how do you think Royce would have done WITHOUT the gi??? ...I know he says he'll always wear it...but what do you think?

I am just awaiting delivery of that video,
Royce uses a gi because he says it makes people fight him differently, and he can obviosly use it for chokes.
But a gi, is hot, uncomfortable(compared to topless),gives the opponent something to get hold of also, and your opponent is still sweaty and slippery anyway. !!!
Hence the reason, i assume Rickson doesnt use a gi.
Generally when training, it is considered easier to train without the gi !
But Royce has an excellent fight record, so he must know what he's doing(except for this fight, by the sound of your posts, hopefully i'll see it next week)!!

            hmmmm

well....for this fight....no time limits.... that alone works against him!!!! damn it gets hot in that gi!!!!

really though...I think Royce could fight better without it... after seeing this fight especially

yes sir, i saw the finals..

i think sakuraba performed well in that event...
gracie didn't have enough punching power and mixed martials arts ability to stop him...royce is one of my favorite fighters and this is hurting to say this but saku was excellent! he fought the same way renzo did..on the floor (it was the cousin of hoyce, two gracies fought in pride and one fought sak, and one fought alexander otsuka..the one that fought sak that night)

it was a good fight i think cause it was skill, i appreciate the time it takes...watching royce fight is boring now..he takes it to the ground and all he does is heel kick, heel kick..

he needs to learn how to box..

                  pride gp finals........

Just seen video, and in particular the fight with ROYCE AND SAKURABA.
Sakuraba matched Royce on the ground and in the clinch, but was far superior in the stand-up striking department.
And because Royce was matched at the clinch, and sakuraba decided not to "go to ground" then thats where most of the fighting took place, in " stand-up".
Thats not what is supposed to happen in BJJ, as in a street fight, not many people can resist, if you choose to go to ground.
Sakuraba's clinching ability took away Royce's main tool.
Thus it became a game of striking ability, punching and particularly low thai style roundhouse, which ended up being Royces down fall.
Sakuraba was far superior, in this area, almost embarrisingly so !
(And i am a massive Gracie fan) !
But one fight does not make Royce a bad fighter over night.
I'm sure he will learn from this experience, as all good fighters are constantly evolving.
He will have learnt that he needs a "CONTINGENCY-PLAN", for when he cannot take an opponent to ground!
Also, what happened to the excellent "shooting" that was a constant feature in his ufc successes?
I'm sure he will add "striking" to his arsenal.
As strikers have added bjja to theirs.

can anyone picture Royce launching knees into a high tie up? what about unclinching to throw a few bombs?
