  • Marcelo Alonso Seattle BJJ

Started training in BJJ this week at Marcelo Alonso's BJJ school in Seattle, WA and I have to say it was a great experience. The instruction was top notch and detailed. The environment was friendly and everyone was helpful. I would recommend anyone to the school.

Does anyone have tips for smaller BJJ practitioners? I'm only 5'4" and 125 lbs. Thanks in advance!

    Bulk up

This depends on how old you are

If 5"4 and still growing try this:

Do low reps of a heavy weight
Eat raw eggs at least 2 times a day

For more check out the training forums.

      Raw eggs?

Don't you worry about Salmonella poisoning or are the eggs in Australia healthier? Marcelo Alonso Seattle BJJ

        Eggs

        You are quite correct.

But you see I havent had any problems yet because I buy freerange eggs. I always go for quality rather than quantity.

Boom, I am a former student of Marcelo's. The only reason I am not currently still training with him is due my work schedule.
Marcelo is THE COOLEST and most knowledgeable MA instructor i've had (out of 5+).

Keep me updated on your progress, I might see you around !

Fighter- Freerange eggs are good If I wanted hormones in my body I would take steroids! J/K!

Jared- FYI, Marcelo will be starting new class hours the week after the 4th of July. I hope to see you there! Please don't kill me when we roll. Check out the website for the new hours.

                Sounds good Boom.

BTW the first month of training can be really tough, especially at a first-rate academy like Marcelo's. Stick with it and learn good defense.

                    Awwww

Its pretty ruff in Norway without schools like that.

Hey you know what you should do........ START YOUR OWN

Starting your own school would be great! It may even start a trend.

                      I agree with JaredExtreme....

It really does take a month or two of training in BJJ before things start to click. At first everything is disconnected, because you don't really have a framework within which to file newfound knowledge. Eventually, if you stick with it, you start having 'Aha' experiences: you will realize, for example, that armlock X is just like armlock Y, except that you have changed the position of your body.

Regarding tips for a small BJJ'er: weightlifting is good, eating extra protein is good, but your fastest gains BY FAR will come with the development of good technique, so concentrate on that, at least initially.

Also, keep in mind that if 'Joe' is cleaning the mat with you right now, he may still be doing that 6 months from now. Just as you have gotten better, so may he have! A good measure of skill is how well you do against a) complete newbies your own size and weight, and b) those guys who come and train at the club less frequently than you do.

                      Keep on training

Oh yes, good choice in going with Marcelo. I have met him at several tournaments and he has always been a class act!

                            Ha Ha HA

That would be preety funny. You could also go on raids into rival MA schools.

Read heaps of books especially the Bruce Lee ones learn from those. Take what you know from the arts you have already done and combine them to create an effective style.

Back in the 70's people were just reading Bruce Lee books and saying that Bruce taught them JKD and made quite alot of money. But dont rip of Bruce Lees name invent your own.

                              I might attend his school.

                              Its really expensive though.
