  • is the art of bjj no longer good enough for mma

when mma was first becoming popular with people like UFC there was one guy that always won it, Royce Gracie now i kno that the Gracies have their own style of ju jitsu but its very similar to bjj.
Bjj is only useful if you can get your oponent onto the mat that is the only time it works take the example of gracie vs. kimo kimo kept gracie on his feet for around 7 mins and gracie couldnt do anything UNTILl he got kimo on the ground, the next fight gracie didnt even fight he was too badly beaten up. Bjj for it to be successful in mma there needs to be more stand up grapling, punching and kicking!

Samurai, you're years behind the times mate. You're talking of UFC 3 here and they're almost up to UFC 40 now.

Anyway, did you enjoy the Games?

bjj IS gracie style jiujitsu, hence Brazilian Jiu Jitsu...the gracies are from brazil....

BJJ just needs to use more takedowns!

Indeed they need more takedowns, they should learn from wrestlers. It's obvious that wrestlers have learned from BJJ, is it not? Time for BJJ to advance by adapting, otherwise it will become just another sport, like Judo has become.

          ADAPT or DIE.....

                  Bir Thai,

why do you want to know what part of Manchester he is in?

Are you going to get down and dirty in your NYPD Blues and stick him in the rear with that little night stick of your?

Oh yeah BJJ players have no takedowns.

Thats why Busta beat Lindland decisively.

Even taking him down at will.

                      Idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!

arona is one of the best takedown artists in MMA. up there with kerr.

sperry is another great takedown artist. busta is a another one.

truth is, BJJ is always evolving in brazil, BTT, gracie barra and so on are developing it, improving what they have to. like leglocks and takedowns. nowadays you see mundial championships being won by leglocks...

look at the BTT guys... look at the grappling skills from chuteboxe, they are pretty good (BJJ). if you watched MECA 6 you would see how good are the BJJ skills from anderson silva (chuteboxe is MT and BJJ)

THE PROBLEM is: we are in the US, where most of the bjj doesn't evolve. if you wanna learn REAL BJJ the only way is going to Brazil. here you learn old bjj like it was in 1993... sad but true.

                        another subject:
what makes wrestlers good in takedowns (a wrestler talking here) is training. and that's all. it isn't nothing special it has only to do with training. if you train it you get good. if you don't, you will suck.

and BJJ and GJJ are the same thing...

and yes BJJ sucks in MMA nowadays... troll or moron? hahaha

MMA = MIXED martial arts. hence, you need stand up and ground fighting. bjj isnt a Mixed martial art, its ONE. thats why ppl cross train in Muay Thai, Western Boxing, etc.

bjj is gracie jui jiitsu. gracies taught it to the machados adn now theres 2 styles.

Bustamante and Noguiera are doing really well. Busta took down an olympic wrestler and beat him twice in one night and Noguiera looks pretty damn impressive. Sperry did really well when he choked out Igor V also. BJJ guys aren't invincible but there are quite a few of them that are still at the top of MMA. No one style is dominating MMA; there are good wrestlers, good bjj fighters, good kickboxers, and there are people who practice those that aren't so good. Most crosstrain but specialize in one style over the others.
