MINSK, Belarus -- Germany and Norway won their second straight games at the ice hockey world championships on Sunday, while France failed to build on its upset victory over Canada as it lost 2-1 to Italy. T.Y. Hilton Jersey . Germany beat Latvia 3-2 after Thomas Oppenheimer scored the winner on a penalty in the third period, squeezing the puck between the pads of goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis. Germany took the lead with goals from Marcel Noebels and Frank Mauer but Georgijs Pujacs and Mikelis Redlihs helped Latvia come back each time. Norway held off Denmark 4-3 after rallying from an early 2-0 deficit. Morten Poulsen and Frederik Storm had given the Danes the lead with two goals in 20 seconds, before Norway rallied with goals from Jonas Holos, Ken Andre Olimb, Per-Age Skroder and Mats Trygg. Jannik Hansen pulled one back for Denmark. Host Belarus earned its first win of the tournament by beating Kazakhstan 4-1. Kazakstan took the lead through Andrei Gavrilin, but Andrei Stepanov equalized and then set up Nikolai Stasenko for the winner in the second period in front of 15,000 roaring and jumping home fans. Sergei Kostitsy added a short-handed goal in the third and captain Alexei Kalyuzhny scored the fourth into an empty net. Germany has five points in Group B after two matches while Latvia and Belarus have three each and Kazakhstan has one. "I have to be happy with my teams performance," Germany coach Pat Cortina said. "That was a step into the right direction after yesterday." Markus Gander gave Italy its first victory of the tournament by scoring the winner with 58 seconds remaining against France. "It was great to get our first win and get our confidence going," Italy coach Tom Pokel said. Norway has six points in Group A while Italy, a newcomer to the top division, has three points, France is on two and Denmark has zero. Later Sunday, defending champion Sweden faces the Czech Republic and high-scoring Russia takes on Finland. Jacoby Brissett Jersey . On the day the club activated Casey Janssen from the 15-day disabled list, his return from a strained oblique that cost him the first six weeks of the regular season, it announced Sergio Santos would be placed on the disabled list on Monday with discomfort in his right forearm. Josh Ferguson Jersey . Grimes signed a $32 million, four-year contract to remain with Miami. The deal, which includes $16 million guaranteed, rewards Grimes for his recovery from an Achilles tendon injury that forced him to miss almost all of the 2012 season. NEW YORK -- Paul Pierce will be out two to four weeks with a broken bone in his right hand, the biggest loss yet for the injury-plagued Brooklyn Nets. Pierce has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture of the third metacarpal of his right, shooting hand, the team said Monday. He was hurt Friday in the first half of a loss at Houston. Pierce has struggled badly in his first season in Brooklyn, but the disappointing Nets can hardly afford another injury. They just got back All-Star centre Brook Lopez but have still been playing without starting point guard Deron Williams and key reserves Andrei Kirilenko and Jason Terry. Pierce is on pace for the worst season of his 16-year career. His average of 12.4 points and .368 shooting percentage would easily be the lowest ever for the No. 2 career scorer in Boston Celtics history. T.J. Green Jersey. The Celtics dealt Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Nets in a summer blockbuster that hasnt worked out nearly the way the Nets hoped. They are 5-12, barely ahead of the New York Knicks for last place in the Atlantic Division. Joe Johnson is the only starter on a roster worth more than $180 million in salaries and luxury taxes who has appeared in every game. Pierce will miss the first matchup against the Knicks on Thursday. Next week, he was scheduled to face the Celtics for the first time Tuesday and former coach Doc Rivers, now with the Clippers, two nights later. The 36-year-old Pierce has made just 27 per cent of his 3-point attempts, including a potential tying miss in the closing seconds of a loss to the Lakers last Wednesday.
