what possible reason can you have for judging what someone else is or is ranked at when you know nothing about that person or the style they are in. This is a forum based on the idea of taking lots from other styles and yet when we hear about someone who is not "old enough" to fit the picture of what we think they should be we act as if they are less than they are. Give everybody a break and judge when you have some idea about that person based on your own indiv. personal experience with them not the bias of their age.
You dont know what your talking about. Someone training 6 hours plus a day (even 3 hours a day, most only train 2-3 times a week for two hours for normal belt progress) could easily be awarded a black belt in a year. As long as some traditional rules were bent. Most clubs only let you grade one belt at a time (these clubs are money hungry usually). But if your instructor knows your have put in the effort and your skill is up to par most serious clubs will allow double or triple grading. Black belt means not much, IMO this is were training really starts. There is usually about a 1.5-2 year standdown between darns no matter how hard you train. So I dont see how 6 years is impossible.
Originally posted by Einherjar Man, you were right, a third dan black belt in six years is REALLY FUNNY... and impossible too (unless you practice HongKong Phooie Do).
It takes AT THE VERY LEAST six years to get a black belt.
It takes AT THE VERY LEAST two years more to get a second dan black belt.
It takes AT THE VERY LEAST three years more to get a third dan black belt.
Very, very funny indeed. Haw haw haw haw haw haw...
That doesn't bother me. I just think it's sad that you would judge someone's skill and style so quickly. Thanks guys for explaining to him how wrong it is to do what he just did.

I don't need to know ANYHTING about you to be certain that you CAN'T possibly fly like a bat. I DO know you don't have wings, I DO know that human beings can´t master any worthy style in so short period of time.
I don't mind how good you are at whatever you practice, I don't mind whether you trained eight hours a day or not. Some things can't be accomplished unless you have spent endless hours sweating your gi.
C'mon... if he's a third dan black belt, I guess within five years he will be awarded with a tenth. For God's sake!

I started at six, man, and it took more than six years to get my first black belt (it wasn't easy, by the way). I know what I'm talking about when I state that a six years practicioner can't be a third dan black belt in any respectable art.
I'm not saying he's a liar, I'm saying that his rank is fake... not real if you prefer.
You dont know what your talking about.
I DO know what I'm talking about. I have been practicing martial arts for 26 years (I started at six, remember?) and I have trained many, many styles. I know what it takes to be awarded with a REAL black belt.

Well, man, since you are a truly believer I've got news for you: Santa does not exist, it's your parents who buy you gifts for Christmas.
Then, how come you can't get a black belt THAT SOON in any worthy style such as Gracies'?
Keep on dreaming...

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against you and I wasn`t trying to hurt your feelings. It has nothing to do with your fighting abilities (any streetfighter CAN fight and he wouldn't be awarded with a black belt either). It has to do with time.
No matter how skilled, talented of gifted you are. Some things take a little time and some others take much longer. Being a third dan is more than having a paper which says you certainly are.
I have walked the walk so I can talk the talk. Anyway, if you are content with you rank, what's the problem?
OK dude, just chill out. You don't know what it was like for me, you have NO CLUE what I did to train and how much I practiced. Nobody here agrees with you (so far) and for a good reason. You don't know what you're talking about. And don't tell me that I have a problem, when I already said that it didn't bother me. YOU have the problem.
How many hours a night did you train and how many nights a week did you train that it took you 6 years to gain your black belt?
You contradict yourself. You say it takes time .. yet more training does not speed up the progress of gaining a black belt? that makes no sense .. in your reasoning I could train once a week for 2 hours learn jack shit but somehow magically earn my black belt because I waited 6 years to get it.
Okay, I could see if he was bragging about being a 3rd Dan or whatever but he isn't. I'm sure they just didn't hand him that just becuase he showed up for class. It might not be compared to a bjj blackbelt but its still an accomplishment in itself for his age. He's not bothering you any get over it.

All those ancient masters who spent 30 years to achieve a fourth or fifth dan were just idiots, then. If they had been trained your style they would have been awarded with a 20th dan at the very least. Is that what you really think?
As I previously stated, I don't mind how hard it was for you and I don't need to know how much you practiced. Some things take time and getting dans takes a lot of time. Period.
Nobody here agrees with you (so far) and for a good reason.
So what? I don't need supporters.
You don't know what you're talking about.
Now this is getting interesting...
No, kiddo... it's you who doesn't know shit about life, martial arts and delusions. Grow up, train hard and get some REAL rank and, perhaps, you will get some respect, ninja-boy.
And don't tell me that I have a problem, when I already said that it didn't bother me. YOU have the problem.
First things first... I SHALL tell you whatever the **** I want, whenever the **** I feel like it. Got that right?
Go learn some manners, kiddo.
Second, I don't have a problem. It's me who has a real rank, remember?
Man, chill out! You're taking this way to far. You can stop trying to cut me down anytime now, calling me kiddo and telling me to learn manners isn't working. I still know you're wrong. Everyone here knows you're wrong. I mean, if you were gonna diss me and my rank that I earned, you could at least do it like the "adult and experienced martial artist" that you certainly are. I never did ANYTHING to you, yet you come on here like the average newbie and cut people down. YOU'RE the one that needs to grow up and learn some manners, and stop lecturing me on crap you don't know anything about.
