Yeah, if Tyson nailed him with a lucky punch he'd probably KO him.
However that's a small window of opportunity, before the inevitable clinch/takedown, where it's a whole different story. I don't think Tyson's size or power are gonna matter down there. It didn't for Severn, Shamrock, Kimo (close!), etc.
With his boxing-only skills he'll beat Royce if he DOESN'T manage to KO him? I don't think so
This is with rules though. In the street, Tyson will obviously be using those teeth... pullin a bottle of A-1 out of his pocket while in Royce's guard... nasty

Ronin, great comeback man. When you cant debate the issue you label the person a troll. Stop blaming others for your own inability to discuss something in an adult matter.
What is so hard about learning to sprawl? What is so hard about learning takedowns for that matter? When you are a PROFESSIONAL athlete and ALL you do every day is train, train, train how long do you think it would take Tyson to get a grip on wrestling? I laugh when you guys say its so much harder to learn the basics of wrestling than striking. It is the opposite in my opinion. To develop really good hands requires painstaking training for a long time. To learn a single and double leg takedown and to sprawl would take maybe 4-8 weeks of full time training to get by in the UFC against most opponents.
I know I will get labeled troll because you wont have the answers. Why was a past his prime kickboxer able to learn anti grappling in a short time from Frank Shamrock? How could Frank Shamrock teach anyone when he'd only been in the sport himself less than 3 years? According to many here it is impossible to learn in a relatively short time.
You guys shouldnt assume that just because your uncoordinated asses cant get a grip on wrestling in a few short months that Tyson couldnt. Give me a break, doing wrestling drills and sparring would be a cakewalk after training for Pro Boxing matches every day. Shit, dont any of you know guys that get their BJJ Blue Belt within 12 months? Only going to 2 classes a week! Then why cant Tyson learn defense against wrestling and its basics in a shorter time by training every day?
Look at all the bums in MMA today. Igor V, gets his ass whupped in K1 but is a force in MMA. Mo Smith, way past his prime as a kickboxer but still does well in MMA. Dan Severn, 60 years old but just defeated Travis Fulton at Danger Zone. Laverne Clarke, a tomato can of a boxer that kicks ass in MMA. Now if those guys can do well in MMA then why the hell do you refuse to believe that Tyson would throw down in MMA?
Sure Randy Couture and Coleman could take Tyson down. Those guys are also Professional athletes. Couture trains 8 hours a day every day. This post was about Royce Gracie vs Tyson and I am confident that Tyson would beat Royce Gracie.

i think you lads underestimate boxers a bit too much. as both a jiu-jitsu guy and an ameuture boxer, i can say that in the few real fights i've been in (about 10ish) i can only recall one in which i had to utilize grappling. and some of these guys i was fighting were trying to take me down. it's just not that hard to get a few punches in even in a clinch. just next time you're rolling around in class make a mental note of every time your opponent could have thrown a punch at you (more or less, any time his hands are free). now imagine he is mike tyson. i think tyson would only have to land one punch on any of us, from any angle and it would be lights out. seriously mates, tyson would murder royce.
and to whomever said something about some people like kerr, and coleman being as strong as tyson, while true, they may be able to say, bench press as much as tyson, there is an art to throwing a punch. tyson could hit about 10 times harder than they could.
yes i agree cross training is good, and that if two guys with the same size and and strength were to fight, it would go to they guy with the most diverse knowledge. but you gotta give an edge to guys who are masters in a certain field. hell, go shoot in on lewis or hollyfield and let me know how it goes.
You can tell the people here who have actually fought, as opposed to those who haven't.
I agree (God, I hate to say this) but I completely agree with Shimora. The issue here isn't can a huge, world-class wrestler take down Tyson, the issue is could a skinny, frail Gracie who just quit to Sak?
Yes, Ken Shamrock, Randy Couture, Mark Kerr, etc. are all big, strong men who could take Tyson down (if they were careful).
But there is no way in hell a weakling like Royce could with his Frankenstein-style of fighting, his fragile chin, and his 100% total inability to hurt Iron Mike. I am talking about an anti-grappling-trained Tyson.

I used to have a lot of respect for most of what you say. Now, thanks to your last idiotic post, you have plummeted into the depths of dogsh!t. Even with your brilliant work as Steed.
"Lucky punch?" Oh, yeah, the former Heavyweight Champion of the World throws "lucky punches." Right, I get it. Has nothing to do with skill, training, or being geneticically-disposed to being the best in the world at that talent. Yep, 100% pure "luck" everytime.

Uh, go jump off a building ...

It seems when Tyson fights a boxer with a lot of skill he seems to lose.Holyfield wasn't scared of Tyson like most other fighters are, that Pussy Tyson had to bite Holyfields ear.You guys are giving Tyson way more credit than he deserves.

Tyson bit Holyfield because Holyfield had cheated by using an illegal Head Butt earlier in the fight.
Tyson was concerned that the fight might get stopped due to the cut from the headbutt. He figured he would give Holyfield something to remember him by.
Its fine to label him a coward but anyone who watched Tyson after he bit Holyfield should have seen the look in Tysons eyes. If that fight had gone one more round I believe Tyson was going to tear Holyfield apart. There was no fear in his eyes as he beckoned Holyfield towards him.
Tyson was a street fighter also. You think he's never wrestled or been to the ground? What about that Mitch Green guy that he had a street fight with. He busted Greens face up so bad his mother wouldnt recognise him. I do not agree that Tyson is a one dimensional "Boxer" that would go down the minute someone attacked him in a style he was not used to.
