Wrong Beatle, I don't like to live in 1993, but in 1975
back when I was on top. If Tyson hits anyone square, they're out. If he hits Royce square he'll take him out like anyone else, however that's his only chance & its a very small one. Royce would win in NTL/NR. He might lose an ear, but then so might Tyson. If Tyson doen't like headbutts, he'd be in for a long night.

      THE MAN has spoken!

      Case closed.

Tyson may appear to be the Missing Link, but in fact he is just a man.

I have news for some of you Tyson jock-riders: there's no such thing as Santa Claus either.

hawk, with all the difficulty Royce has had with mediocore/crappy strikers, how do you think Royce would even have a chance against Tyson with a little anti takedown knowledge??

I mean Hackney probably didnt know what the f**k a double leg takedown was and he still kept Royce at bay for a little while and landed some good shots.....Tyson is 100 times the puncher that Hackey is and he is way stronger, more explosive, shorter with a wider base......I mean how could Royce possibly do it without eating one too many fists to the jaw??

          STD :

Royce wouldn't underestimate Tyson the way he did Hackney, for one thing.

I cannot believe in this day and age some you guys arguing about whether a Gracie can defeat boxer! This is BJJ forum right? You should come over to intheguard and post it then watch everybody laugh.

How many GIA tapes, UFCs, how many NHB events do you have to see to believe? Why do you think Gracies want to fight Tyson?! They know it is turkey shoot. Royce know Tyson got big punches so he's not gonna not protect. Then he take Tyson down and with everybody watching he mount world's famous boxer and pound the **** out him.

Tyson would be making girlie noises like biyotch before Royce get tired of it and put him to sleep. Sure Royce almost get clocked by Kimo or HACKney but Royce get lazy like anybody else and almost get caught when in the ring with big brawlers like them.

Royce wasn't afraid Shamrock or Severn though and they try to pound him but it didn't work. Even Sak can't pound Royce, he kick him sure and that broke foot but Royce didn't get his face smashed in. So how is Tyson gonna do it?

Tyson would be face down on the canvas drueling in his own blood making crosseyes like he did when no-name Buster Douglas make him a biyotch.

            Boxer vs. Grace.... HAHA LOL

Exactly,Royce is not a stupid fighter. If Royce knew he would be fighting Tyson then Royce would have a whole new strategy coming into the fight.

Who has Royce pounded from the mount in the past? He choked some guys out in the first 4 UFC events. This is a BJJ board, but everyone doesn't have to believe the same thing. If Royce had a hard time with the punches of Hackney and Shamrock...neither of them is anything like Tyson. There has not been a striker in NHB who is in Tyson's league.
Fights are decided by the fighters, not by a particular style. A motivated Tyson would walk through any of the Gracies. They just are not athletic enough to stop him. Many people want to believe that there is a technique that will let them defeat a guy like Tyson. Quicker, stronger guys will overcome technique if they are motivated and have the will to win.

                    StrongerThanDeath,
Keith Hackney was an excellent wrestler, in fact he was
a state finalist in high school. He not only knew how stop takedowns, but could also do them pretty well. Royce did underestimate Hackney's ability because he didn't know of Keith's grappling ability.

                      Zeke:

You have been buying too much of what Pit Dog is selling.

Open your eyes man! Pure boxers can't compete in MMA, and "6 months of training" ain't gonna help much.

Zeke how many beeter "athletes" have the Gracies beat for all these years? This is what BJJ is all about--technique, leverage, skill to defeat larger opponent. What hawk says of Hackney is true too, he obviously knew some grappling.

If you haven't seen Royce "ground and pound" you may remember that in the UFCs Helio told him not to hurt his opponents if he didn't have to because they wanted to show how effective BJJ was without lots of blood.

Royce can pound anybody he wants from the mount, remember that Pat Smith biyotch tapped after gettng smacked maybe two times by Royce? And he was big kickboxer, ha. Once Rickson get on top of you you better roll over and get put to sleep because he will pound you, and theres lots of video to show that.

This is too funny you guys arguing for this, Tyson would be a big dark stain on the canvas. Royce use him for rug.

Ronin, my opinions are my own. All I have to do is think, Who would I fight if I had to fight one of these guy? The guys are Tyson, Rickson, or Royce. There is no doubt that I would prefer Rickson or Royce. Athletic ability(strength, speed, and reflexes)is hard to overcome. That is why Eddie Futch isn't a better boxer than Roy Jones. Eddie has better technique and knows more about boxing, but he is 80+ years old. There are guys playing Division III football who may have better technique than Warren Sapp, but Sapp is probably the best Defensive Tackle in the NFL because he has great athletic ability and he is motivated. I know that the martial arts world teaches that technique will overcome everything, but I don't buy it. Neither Royce nor Rickson have ever been in combat with anyone like Mike Tyson. I also believe that Tyson, if he wanted to, could learn enough grappling in six months to defend against anyone. Like someone posted yesterday, Tyson is a good athlete who could train for a living. He is not some office worker who is learning a grappling style training two hours per week.

                              Zeke:

You are scared of Tyson (and rightfully so), because he would hurt you, whereas Royce and Rickson would just put you to sleep or let you tap. Also, Tyson is a big, mean-looking mo-fo, and Royce and Rickson look like extras from a Cheech Marin movie. So sure, Tyson is more intimidating.

But if the Gracies get him on the ground, he's history.

The Gracies aren't the best at takedowns, but they're good enough to beat a big grappling dummy like Tyson.

To those of you who think that it takes a long time to learn takedowns and counters, you probably have never wrestled. A high school wrestler has wrestling 4 months out of the year. Before his first season is over he can outshoot and outsprawl most pure BJJers. That's less than 4 months of training at about 5 days a week, 2.5 hours a day. That's not a knock on BJJ as a style, it's a knock against BJJ's unwillingness to devote even a little bit of time on takedowns and counters. Learning takedowns and counters is EASY. It may come hard to you guys because you're probably being taught by BJJers, not wrestlers. I'm not saying that you can learn enough in that time to stop a more experienced WRESTLER from taking you down, but you can learn enough to prevent a BJJer from taking you down, especially in an NHB match where you don't have to only rely on grappling to avoid grappling. You can bet that with 6 months of training a Mike Tyson can learn enough about takedown and counters (especially if he trains with a wrestling coach and not a BJJ teacher like most of you do) to keep Royce from taking him down. Actually I'll bet that within that time a guy like Tyson can learn to shoot in, lift Royce up high and slam him ala Frank vs Zinoviev.
