    Bottom-line:

Tyson is a great boxer, Royce is a great grappler.

For MMA, bet on the grappler. Unless Tyson somehow develops Vovchanchin-like skill, I would bet on Royce 8 or 9 times out of 10. I'm surprised we even need to debate this.

      Exactly Ronin.

This is like debating if Rosie O'Donnell hotter than Anna Kournikova. 9 out of ten guys gonna say Anna, but then you got that one jackass who look at Rosie and think "mommy!" and vote for her.

I guess there's just a lot of those jackasses on this thread, like grapevine.

        Playa:

To be fair, I see their point, but I just don't think a "crash-course" in grappling is going to suffice against someone of Royce's skill.

It would give Tyson a small chance, but nothing more.

If he magically learned anti-grappling really well, like Vovchanchin has, then they would be on to something.

But it wouldn't happen over-night, and Tyson would have to really want it.

True, there are always gonna be that elite group of jackasses.

I mean lets think of all the boxers that got beat by all the grapplers in NHB competitions, sure they were not A class boxers but neither were the grapplers.I bet we could go out and get some BJJ students that have only been training for maybe 1 or 2 years and they will defeat a boxer that has been training for 5+ years.

Thats the key point, would Tyson actually want to train in anti-grappling or would his ego be to big and just walk in to the fight thinking that he could just box Royce?

                Robbie:

Tyson is apparently a big MMA fan (likes Frank and Tito), and friends with Kerr, so he is not as dumb as many think he is. I'm sure he knows that Royce could beat him.

Therefore, I am sure he would take some time to study up on grappling if he did want to fight Royce, like Pat Smith and others did.

However, he would really have to train hard. People who say it would be easy for him make me laugh. Switching from one sport to another is extremely difficult; just ask Michael Jordan, 6-time NBA champion and .200 hitter in the minor leagues.

I think there will be some good boxers crossing over into MMA with success someday, but Tyson won't be one of them. This "what if" stuff gets a little silly after a while.

Wow I didn't know Tyson was a fan of MMA.

Thats a good point about Michael jordan.

                    Tyson could litterally kill Royce!!!

I'm not being biased because i box, but I seriously think Tyson has the potential to kill any and all NHB fighters in a street fight. I mean Igor V., Vitor Belfort, Tank Abbott, Don Frye, and others have all beaten guys with punches at one time or another. They're punching power and hand skills are no where near Tysons. Not even close. At all. I mean, c'mon! Vitor Belforts considered a "phenom" but Tyson would get killed? Scrub ass Belfort couldn't even make the Brazillian boxing team!...and Brazil isn't exactly known for producing boxing champions now are they! And Belfort has whooped ass in NHB. Kerr got his face punched in by Igor...who hits harder Igor or Tyson? Hmmmmmmm. Makes ya think don't it. And who's to say even an untrained Tyson can't fight on the ground? In the street he can still punch on the ground, and he can bite ,eye gouge, hit in the groin, etc. I'm talking street not MMA. And Royce in his prime had a tough time with scrubs like Hackney and Kimo. They are both no where near Tyson. Also Tyson knocks out 220+ lbs. men with gloves on who are trained to take a punch. If he hit you bare knuckle, it's time to meet your maker. Ask Mitch Green, a 6'5 240 lbs. boxer who from what I hear had a reputation for being one of the baddest toughest SOB's when he was in prison, what it was like to get hit by Tyson. Believe me, I'm not a Tyson dick rider. Far from it. I think any heavyweight (Ibeabuchi, Holyfield, Tua, Golota, Lewis, even Roy Jones)would do well in the street with the likes of NHB fighters. But I also don't think it's guarunteed that Tyson would beat Kerr, Shammy, Coleman etc. If Tyson got taken to the ground those guys would probably win. I just don't think it's fair to say Tyson would get killed. 99% of the grapplers I talked to think that. They are brainwashed. I think like a real person. Tyson might win, he might not.....but please for the sake of common sense, don't say "he'd get killed". I do believe Royce would have no chance against him.

steve jennum is livinf evidence that a strong gritty man will win in a competition of dreams, blood, guts and most of all .......glory.

                      • Belfort whomped on guys dumb enough to go toe to toe with him, grapplers who think they can punch too.

No way in hell Royce gonna try and trade blows with Tyson. When Tyson get tangled up he's gonna start flailing and make mistake and then Rorion bring out teddy bear to lie next to him after ROyce put him to sleep.

Remember lots of guys make mistake of trying to trade blows with guy who has hardest punches around. Holyfield know better, he keep him away with jab and when Tyson close in to dangerous range Holyfield does what? TIES HIM UP. Clinch. Remember this frustrate Tyson so much he start chewing on the ear!

Royce wouldn't even throw a punch. Kick maybe to open him up, but if Royce goes toe to toe then Royce in big trouble. But Royce is too smart for that.

Tyson is still biyotch and he should spend less time fooling around with that polish guy and more time picking out a nightey in a pretty color cause hes gonna be sleeping.

P.S. Please use paragraphs your posts hurt my eyes.

                          • I think I have met some of you guys. You are the guys who watch a Tyson fight on TV with your girlfriend/wife. You have a smug look on your face and you look at your g.f./wife and say, "I could whip Tyson, my instructor could kill him". Then you and your instructor go back to the strip mall gym and tell each other how lethal you are while Tyson continues to make 50 million dollars or more a year fighting. I guess Tyson is just lucky that all the really bad dudes prefer teaching in strip malls to making the big money. He wouldn't have a chance if _____________(insert martial artist's name) was into boxing instead of teaching.

That sure was funny Zeke.......TRUE.....but funny! I love how every BJJ white belt thinks he could beat Roy Jones Jr. in a street fight! Atleast when I trained at Nick Sanzos gym the guys I trained with gave boxing repect. Not all, but most. They didn't think just by grappling you could beat any fighter. The same people who think Tyson would get killed in NHB are the same people who think Bruce Lee WOULD beat everyone in NHB.
