  • wierd question.

ok im sure youve all gotten "whats the best MA?" but i have a twist.

    heres the scenario.

    you were cloned at birth

and all of ure clones started a diff MA....

    judo
    bjj
    muay thai
    jkd
    karate
    sambo
    kali
    silat

and then (at the age you are now), you all met. and held a no holds barred tourny..
all of you were equally dedicated to ure training and trained the same amount..which of ure clones would win (no weapons)

ps:if u havent done one of these arts just exclude it to the ones u have knoledge of

Who did you and your clones train under? What was the intensity of the instruction? Did they train under just one instructor? etc? etc? etc? The answer is as infinite as the question.(I think I just created a philosophical statement)

in a ring, i'd say bjj or sambo. nobody else there has a clue about grappling (judo does, but not to the same extent). it would not go well for the strikers. by "no holds barred" do you mean that i would be allowed to break fingers, fish hook, and do stuff like that--doesn't negate grappling, but sure makes it a lot more difficult/dangerous--or just a classic ufc match?

        MY GRAND PREDICTION:
the thais would dominate striking with gloves and the jkders would do better without them. karatekas would die on their feet against mt/jkd, or fall apart on the ground. a kali guy would probably get his nose broken trying to gunt (do a destruction on) a punch. judo probably wouldn't handle striking, and even bjj might go down to a good knee or elbow. i have no idea what silat would do, but the only silat guy i ever saw in the ufc danced and pranced mystically and got his ass handed to him. my guess: silat clone would do the macarena and then accidentally break his own neck.

        guess what--in the end--IT DEPENDS!

what are you natural attributes? would your clones be better suited to striking or grappling? or both? it always depends. murphy's law doesn't come into play much in the ring, but you still never know. it was a dumb answer, but it was fun to think about.

In a perfect world the jkd man would win.

he would train as dilligently as all the other clones learning what worked best for him and learning all the other techniques of all the arts he would be exposed to, assuming in this case he would have access to all the super-intellegent alien trainers. the jkd man would box the wrestlers and wrestle the boxers. in a perfect world the jkd man would always win.

          thanks,

          mike

Well it depends, as each clone is going to have an advantage over the other. Like the muay Thai guy is going to have an advantage over the Judo clone as he can strike as well, but when the judo clone gets the muay thai clone on the ground then he is going to excell at it. Im not sure if there could really be a clear cut weapon.

Hope they try it in real life, and put it on TV

Judo has a few striking techniques. They are rarely taught these days, but they do exist. That being said I'd have to go with one of the grappling arts. If you're determined enough it isn't hard to get in close and take somone down. It may not be elegant, but it will be effective. Once you're down on the ground punching and kicking don't help much.

No offence to BJJ ... but saying that BJJ would win because the other styles cant grapple ... is just crap. Thats like saying TKD would win because the BJJ guys cant kick. Or something stupid like that. If these guys are masters .. they would know they are not good on the ground and would do everything in their power to avoid getting into a grappling situation.

                    This question is silly.

it may be a dumb question, but in a fight with rules in a ring, grappling has a distinct advantage over striking alone. as a striker, you have one chance to stop the guy who wants to bring you to the ground--and that assumes you ko him in 1-2 hits (unlikely). if you have no understanding of grappling and you are not allowed foul tactics, your chances just became slim and none. striking is becoming more prevalent in the ufc/related tournaments because everybody knows grappling now. for the most part, all that ever happens on the ground is a hugging match. i am surprised that you would think that someone can't take you to the ground--few do now. no matter how good your striking arsenal is, even a totally untrained person will likely bring you down if he really wants to. a shitty boxer clinches a good one to stop being hit. how often do boxers lock up in a clinch? think of each of those as a chance to go to the ground--and that's with many more rules than a nhb match. i'm not calling grappling the ultimate ma, but if you want to succeed in the ring, you'd better have an understanding of it--same with striking. history shows that grappling usually wins when training is exclusive.

Yeh what you say is true Ryan... and I think its a sad day for all because it has made the sport a little more boring boring. The fights that dont end up on the ground are so much more enjoyable.

But in saying what you say .. if someone trained specifically to avoid getting taken to the ground and trained counters to most of the moves used to bring them down .. I believe it wouldnt be that hard to stop it.

The classic charge with head down and grab ... Im supprised how oftern that works! It almost makes me sick as most of the time I can see an easy devistating counter.. yet not many seemed to have trained to stop this. I see more fights though where there are counters comming out and blows that counter as well and deliver good impact .. eventually we will see more of this .. and I cant wieght .. as grapple fights are so boring .. half the time your not really sure what happend till you watch the reply like 10 times. And if I wanted to see men hugging and rubbing/grinding all over each other (sometimes in skin tight clothing) Id watch wrestling or gay porn.

Dont get me wrong though I do like to see a bit of grapling just not 10 minutes of it.

you have a good point also, but a grappleing match is allot more fun to be a part of, what i mean to say is..... id much rather lose in a guiteen choke than by a round house to the head.....

this thread is geting interesting, keep posting

true, but it's more fun to WIN with a roundhouse to the head than a guillotine choke--unless the poor bastard knows nothing about the ground and flails like a fish out of water.

Yeh I like to grapple as well! Although I havent really trained in it and only know what my friends have shown me. I too would much rather lose to a grapple, as it wouldn't bend my pride at all because I dont really know what Im doing when it comes to grappling (plus it hurts for longer if you get kicked in the head :P). I only know a few basic ways to avoid going to the ground .. and this is just from mucking around with my friends and making stuff up when they try to tackle/whatever me.

Personally though I would much rather .. Win a fight by a nice kick to the head rather than a choke/lock. Personal preference I suppose.
