  • Tougher Arms for Blocking

What are some ways of toughening up my arms to handle the blocks a little better? Some people mentioned that Thai boxers have some technique with a metal bar, but there are less painful methods.

I'm looking to find a way to make blocking less painful - either by learning not to block with "bone to bone" for that sharp electricity-like pain or to do something that will toughen up my arms so the block won't be so damn painful.

    I'm a newbie in Kenpo.

    Thanks,

    David Hume

you shouldn't be blocking bone to bone in the first place. i consider that the "idiot block." this is not a dig on you. it's just that this block hurts the bones in your arms, causes pain, and is less stable than another method of blocking. block with your palm facing outwards towards the opponent. not only does this cause the bones in your forearm to allign faster (making for a much more stable block), but it lets the meat of your forearm take the blow rather than the bone itself. give it a try. it should give you some quick results. good luck.
