Not to ruin the parade, but statistics aside, being a doctor (i.e. MD) and being a fitness guru selling products on the internet are NOT THE SAME thing.
On average, a doctor goes through four years of pre-med, four years of medical school and THEN they intern for x number of years before they become full on doctors. If doctors start pedaling bullshit, somebody somewhere (read the AMA) is going to PUSH their button, to borrow a phrase of local usage. So, let me think, who is more qualified to dispense health advice?????
On the upside, Furey is enthusiastic and his workouts make sense. He could work my ass into the ground any given day. HOWEVER the man reminds me of the Ginsu(tm) knife salesman who blast the cable stations at 3 in the morning.
Instead of saying Hey, I've got a new angle and it works pretty good and it's fun (read TaeBo) he claims that bridging will fix anything and everything!
What I would love to see is for him to come on the show here and tell us how it is. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.
If I'm going to be jealous of anyone in the fitness/competition world, it would have to be Gene Simco. The man is in excellent physical condition, has two awesome books out, and kicks ass on a regular basis. He has the stuff to back up what he sells and acutally invites comments on his works.
I MAY one day buy Combat Conditioning. That is probably the only useful thing he has to offer, and even that is full of exaggerated claims. The rest is repetitious and, even worse, downright ridiculous - from the unbeatable "secrets" of Farmer Burns to this mind power shit.
He is a wanker and, judging by your logic.........

There's no need for that. Matt Furey already has a video for people suffering from this problem: Magnetic Mind Penis: how to turn your genital obsession into a motivational dynamo that will allow you to defeat anyone. Non-believers will cower in fear of your genitalia-induced wrath
I never have and never will buy any of his products. For grappling, I have a bunch of tapes by guys I respect, including Sperry. For conditioning, I lift, I run, I do plyometrics, and whatever my instructor wants in class. After a few months of Furey's arrival on the scene I also began ignoring his articles in magazines.
I personally found Furey's Combat Conditioning exercises KING at lowering my resting pulse and getting me into shape WITHOUT the knee pain I got from heavy weights, and plyo's and running. I still lift weights but not that heavy, and plyo's just weren't worth the joint injury and trauma. Also all the running and weight training I did , did dick all to increase my fitness -- maybe my body just doesn't respond to those exercises but thats what I found. After 3 month of intense running and weights my pulse didn't drop one iota.
On the other hand after 2 weeks of CC my pulse dropped a staggering 10 bpm -- I take it from the Hindu Squats. If I simply "ignored" people like Furey I would never have found something that works.
I have to admit that I fell for an ad in an Australian MA mag and sent away for "Combat Conditioning" (and it was very expensive in Aussie dollars!).
It does have some good exercises, but nothing I have not seen before. I think that Furey is good at synthesizing old material into a new package. I am trying to incorporate some of CC into my everyday stuff at the moment. I have found the squats have improved my leg power (but I was doing nothing other than kicking before so I have no comparative data) and the pushups seem to help with my grappling conditioning.
However, the production quality of the book was quite low (esp. for a book that cost me $79 AUS). Grammatical errors and mixed up photo sequences, along with some fairly low quality photos.
BTW, my father in-law is Indian, and remembers many of the exercises from his school PE classes and his time in the Indian armed forces.
I was disappointed not to get a free set of steak knives with my order . . .
I've got MF's Magnetic Mind Power on sale now for the new low price of only: $100 US. This consists of 3 audio tapes, 2 cassettes and and workbook. If interested email me at:
