GracieAustin, Furey would never sign up for a public fight with you or anyone else. The last time he issued a challenge it was to someone 50 lbs lighter than him to a pin/fall match, because he was po'd that this guy had insulted Karl Crotch. Wasn't he supposed to enter Abu Dhabi at some point? What happened to that? The guy has done nothing and yet he is allowed to write articles in ma magazines.Comment

If Furey has done nothing, why is he such a success? He writes in well known MA magazines, he can charge huge rates for his products, and he can also charge a great deal for personal training. He must be doing something right. In fact he must be a marketing genius.Comment

My take on Matt Furey is this, he knows "something," hes trained in some sort of grappling, and i know people who do Catch and can really kick some ass, but thats not what im trying to get at.
Matt Furey won the 1st international Shuai Chiao tournie in Bejing(december 1997). He is the only American to win... but heres where things get a little funky. If anyone dosnt know the rules to the comp, basically you throw guys for points, no striking, no grappling(like BJJ of judo comps) just throws. The feet of the opponent need to go over his head to maximise force. If someone slips and his hands or knees touch the ground it counts against him. Sounds to me like the childs game king of the hill to me, anyway...
Furey fought 4 rounds first against and Italian, the a frechman, then a another french man, he went on the the finals against his only chinese opponent Xiao Hada. He scored the first point witha small throw, 1-0 then was thrown powerfully by Hada, 1-2, he then threw hada one last time before the match ended for a 2-2 draw. The judges were gonna rule in favor of hada cause his one very powerful throw was better then 2 half assed ones. He got pissed cause he thought in a draw, the first person who scored would have won. He put up a protest and sent his translator to protest for him, he convinced them to give himthe medal.
In my opinion most of his fighting took place of the mat. Ive seen adds as him being in kung fu tournament and being the only american to win, but then he goes on to say its an ancient style of grappling kung fu. I dont know how true that is but i do know this. How many americans have actually competed in this in the past 7 years? Probably not many, so less competitors from our country = less chances for us to win. By the sound of it, it dosnt sound like he had very hard competition. The italian who lost to him also said his technique was lousy, and that he was just wicked strong(thats not a quote). That could just be losers hostility, but it does make you think.
Anyway, Matt has inspired me...in the next few weeks ill release my long awaited...
