    Change of reasoning

    Kh,
The reason why i got into MA in the begining is not the same reason why i am doing it today. I guess it's like everything esle that you do, you start up with something in mind until you actualy find a path.

I saw a street fighter anime, and i thought

"ryu and sagat are soooo cool!"

"Ill learn karate and muay thai!"

      thus i am here.

Mines mainly to give me as much of an edge over someone on the street, trying to attack me. So mainly for self defence, and I guess I did want to get fitter, but fittness just comes with the martial Arts so I find it very beneficial in many ways. Makes me real glad I'm doing it.

        Thanks
        Scott

They day I ( a 4 year old) knocked out a 6th grade kid with a 2X4 was the event that started me in martial arts. My parents wanted to curb my violent tendencies and learn some control.

              Hehehe,

Not sure is worked but at least I smile at people when I spar now.

i used to be violent when i was a kid. but then i went against a kid that was twice my age. he did a foot sweep and broke my leg. lol not a major break. that kind of discouraged me to fight until a little later.

I was always glued to the screen when David Carradine was on the telly in "Kung Fu".

Ok, I can see now that the techniques were crap. But, at the time, I thought he was the coolest thing on earth, and loved the moment in the programme that he kicked someone in the head.

                  Wow!

I wonder how much better that show would have been had Bruce Lee been the star?

Ooh ooh! A post I can reply to (being a newbie I don't want to jump in and interrupt threads)

                        Why?

A combination of things. Self defense. Fitness. Hoping to teach my mind and body to work together. And once again ... self defense. I've always thought highly of eastern philosophies. They seemed to make the most sense to me.

So put it all together and that's about as close to my reason as I can come. I never even watched martial arts movies ... until now.

It wouldn't. Bruce would never have been able to play a humble monk. He oozes too much violence!

Bruce Lees movies and the wave of other Kung-Fu movies at the time of the Bruce Lee era. In 5th or 6th grade we practiced "street martials arts", we had a gang, not like todays gangs but we thought we were. But anyway, in 1973, when I was 13, I enrolled in my first class. It was a Kajukenbo class in Newark, Ca., under Sifu Bill Caspillo, a 5th degree from Pleasnt Hill, Ca., I fought my first tounament in 1974 at Ralph Castros Califiornia State Championships (I got knocked on my ass).
