  • Krav Maga Groundfighting

Hello, I was wondering if anyone here has tried Krav Maga yet. It seems to be a pretty good system. I've heard mostly good (and a few bad) things about it. The stand-up portion seems to be pretty good and I know that most of the ground work is based on BJJ. Apparently there is some "dirty stuff" added in, like biting, eye gouging, etc.

Has anyone here ever trained in it? Or rolled with a KM guy? One strike against KM is apparently you must complete level 1 training before you even begin to do groundwork.

I rolled with Bri Thai once and he bit me, but I don't think he trains in Krav Maga, so I don't think it counts.

    Sorry.

I wouldnt give it too much credit. I went over to the Krav forum and saw a topic asking if ankle locks EXISTED. An instructor said he was against teaching any submission to the general public because its dangerous and blah blah. He didn't seem knowledgable at all in that rspect. The post is probably still there.

From my uneducated perspective on Krava Maga, it is about self defense, and only self defense. What point would an ankle lock serve in a self defense situation?

Or, for that matter, any 'submission' type grappling?

I used to have an old magazine that had a lengthy article on krav maga. It showed bas rutten and oleg taktarav wearing outfights like they were teaching krav maga or something. If either of those guys were involved in it, it would seem like there would be some submissions involved. I'll have to see if I can dig up that old magazine.

Krav Maga is a francise martial art. Some call it Mc Dojo. I would strongly suggest for anyone that wants to do anything aside from get a little work out try a real Martial Art, not J-Lo's new marketing plan. The stuff is junk.

If you don't know what value submission has in a real encounter than your hopeless.

Krav Maga is the Israeli army's version of line training. (Out dated USMC hand to hand combat training) The Instructors go through a couple week course & they are ready to teach. They have watered down the training some & brought it to the soccer mom market. You should look up your local Muay Thai Academy or your local BJJ school. Or look around for a good professional fighter that trains in your area.

GRACIEAUSTIN, any idea what the israeli army currently teaches it'se people? Surely it's not just krav maga. I hope not. My bjj instructor is supposed to be going to Israel very soon for some security training. I hope they don't teach him that kind of crap.

I was in the USMC and was a Primary Marksmanship Instructor among other things. My little brother is a Machine gunner straight back from Afgainistain. My older brother was in the Marines as well. we all agree that their room clearing stuff & some lots of their security stuff is up to snuff, but their hand to hand is not as cutting edge as some would think.

The submission is the end all winner. Kinda like a 12 gage slug to the head.
