Yea I agree with you. I wasn't trying to say that you should try and go to the ground should you have to fight. I did say that those KM guys are helpless once they do go to the ground and in my opion that is not good. I also was trying to make the point that unless you're running standing up isn't much better than on the ground against multiple attackers. (This is where we probably disagree) Chances of you avoiding the clinch is very poor. Once you enter that clinch it's like football every one is going to pile on you even if you're using HKE.

As far as someone trying to pull a weapon on me in any range my numb-chucks and three sectional staff will take care of those problems.

I think I disagree with you a bit on changing the rang of the fight.

I think a good fighter can change the rang from ground to stand up just as well as a fighter could go from the clinch to boxing/kick boxing range. Proof of this would be Matt Serra vs B.J. Penn. There where a couple of moments in the fight where Serra was on his back with Penn either striking or starting a guard pass attempt and before anything could happen Serra had stood back up from his guard and was fighting on his feet again. Just as fast as Penn broke from the clench and went back to boxing range.

Of course if the guy has you pinned against the fence on you're back you couldn't stand back up but then if your pinned agaisnt the fence standing you can't do much either.

And yes if the guy has side control the mount or some other dominate position you're not going to be able to stand up very fast either.

I don't think I would get attacked with out some type of weapon in my hands if a couple people were attacking me. As far as multiple opponents & ground fighting, we do practice this at our academy and Relson has some great techniques for this situation. I suggest any one that doubts you can fight with 1 person on the mat with you & another above you two GO TRAIN WITH RELSON! Is it an idealplace to fight, no. Can you work out of it? Yes. The problem with people saying it is impossible to fight multiple opponents on the while on the ground probably don't practice getting out alive from this situation and you don't know any good techniques for this. I personally am very comfortable on the ground with one or two people because I am used to training like this. I really am not going to try to convince people that this is some where to fight, because it is not the ideal position. But I tell you if you find this to be a weak part of your game you had better practice from there. And try some of the same priciples as standing & fighting more than one person if you don't know anything else.

No convincing necessary. I am in total agree ment with you on everything save the weapons comment. Ideally, everyone would have a blade or firearm in a situation like that. Sometimes, it just doesn't work out for one reason or another. About groundfighting multiples, you are absolutely correct. It is not an ideal place to deal with multiples from, but it must be addressed and trained for. Most people who say something can't be done are really saying that they can't do it. Very few things are impossible. At the place I train, we practice ground fighting blindfolded, one-armed, against multiples, with weapons or a combination of the above. No matter how difficult a situation is, you have a better chance of making it out intact if you train for it. My main point about voluntarily groundfighting more than one opponent was that it is very difficult and leaves too much to chance, so it is better to avoid it if you can. As far as training with Relson goes, as much as I'd like to, it's not an option at this
point. Maybe some time in the future.

Unless you're in a Jackie Chan Movie you're not going to be too successfull fighting more than one guy.

Being tie up in the clinch isn't that much safer than being tied up on the ground.

I totally agree with the "throwing-the-rock-technique"

You wont find them teaching that at a krav maga class !

Ilooked into the Krav maga scene a bit,
and there were many inknown quantities about it,
that i just wasnt convinced by.

If you look on their web site,
they boast about it being real-life, no frills fighting,
but on their discussion forum, most of them admitted that if they got taken to ground by an average bjja fighter then they were finnished. !!!!

Is that a real-life fighting system.

I was booked up to start krav maga classes the next week,
                and so consequently didnt bother.

I think its another one of those "hyped" up ones.

THey say, The israli army uses it, so it must work.
(like as if they dont use weapons, they attack the enemy with bare hands )???

I think its loses a letter in translation,

The v in krav, should infact be a p.

I was talking about me throwing rocks, not the Krap Magigi Instructors. I think I a street fight I would be much more dangerous with a hand full of rocks. I wish more of their students would come on here.
