  • Getting kicked out of class

My instructor recently emailed me and told me that I can no longer be affiliated with his school. He called me an embarassment because I allowed myself to be tapped by a couple of wrestlers that had no submission training, and because I was going to work out with some guy that's been training under a bogus instructor.

Is it just me or does it seem like my former instructor is going on a freaky power trip? The fool is leaving to go to Isreal for a year and that's probly gonna destroy his school anyhow!

GRACIEAUSTIN, you're an instructor. Would you care if one of your students got tapped? Would that make you want to boot them out of your class? It's not like it was a real challange match with any of the guys that tapped me. I was just working out with them and that makes me an embarrasment.

Due screw that guy, I would try and find a better teacher. Getting tapped by a lesser experienced grappler could happen to any one. I saw a black belt get tapped by a purple belt once in a tournament. Does that mean that purple belt is better than the black belt. No, only on that day was he better. Man I got tapped by a white belt once when I first got my purple belt. I was wrestling with the guy and I tried to do somekind of wierd sweep or something from the guard (I can't remeber exactly what it was) that I wasn't normally used to doing. The next thing I know I was in a bad position and the guy had my neck his choke was in deep, as much as I didn't want to tap I had to. Does that mean he's better than me because he caught me that one time. No way. If I wasn't trying out new stuff and putting my self at risk how am I to ever get better. After that I made him tap like fifteen times. Another time I was careless while passing a blue belts guard and got caught in a Triangle. Again I had to tap man. Does that mean that blue belt is better than me. No I just made a mistake. After that I passed that guy's guard every time. Tapping is part of learning and the beauty of Jui-Jitsu is that it can build humlity even at the most advanced levels. I have seen BJJ instructors hold their students back a while longer from promotion because a lesser exprienced grappler was giving them too much trouble and I think that is fine it's not a good idea to promote a guy until hes ready but telling some one that you've got to leave the school over it is wrong.

Next I would say who ever you work out with is your own buisness and you can do what ever you want but some teachers do get a bit touchy on this issue so I would recommend that if you think your teacher might be a bit sensitive in this area than it's better off if you just don't let him know about it.

Last why is he going to Isreal to learn Krava Manga?

My god, leave because you got tapped?! What is your instructors deal?

Hell, if you don't tap, you aren't learning!

That doesn't sound like the whole story to me. I thought you two were collaborating on a book or video????

I reckon the Intstructors jealous of the relationship that Mr Poopy has developed with his new friend, the home made grappling dummy!

That would be an INFLATED EGO....WOW!
Provided the story as presented is true of course. However, the story seems to be a little odd to say the least.

Truly, there has to be more to it than that bro.
What kind of instructor tells someone to go if they tap. Every instructor that I have ever met views being tapped as a learning opportunity. And if he is good enough to want to write a book, or put out a video, then he should me a little more wise than what you have told us.

Traditional Instructors think they should be your only instructor and even some non-traditonal instructors but I haven't seen that in bjj. No doubt, I've left on bad terms, but thats another story.

                      About tapping

I had a instructor who once said that tapping shouldn't be seen as defeat, but as a thank you. By making you tap, your opponent has gotten you into an area that you can't get out of- and as this is just training, its up to you to learn from that experience. If you don't think about what you did wrong, what you could do to get out of that, that its your own fault for not learning.

Anywho- that guy sounds like an ass. You're better off without him, I'd say.

There really isn't much more to tell. I was working with him on a website (www.stompingass.com) and talking about doing some other stuff. Then I start talking about working out with the guy that's been under the bogus instructor and he freaks the hell out. The bogus instructor is a real fraud, if his students are any indication to his ability. I guess you could say that about me too, except that I don't get tapped by slackers. It's difficult for me sometimes against very skillful wrestlers and of course people with better grappling ability.

Later today I will post all the emails that got sent back and forth if anyone cares to read them.

I am going to start working out with a local judo club this Saturday. I have worked out with them before and the instructor would never do something like this. They are a lot less cocky also.

If you post the emails Poopy, be sure to remove any reference to your instructors name. No need for lawsuits and such.

Hey, don't laugh, it could happen....
