OMG LMAO, I was coming out of my gym like three weeks ago, and these two guys from the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints approached me.
They came up with the "hey hows it going"
So I'm like, ah **** these people are gonna try to mug me and im like 30 feet away from my car. They looked shocked when they started talking to me and I took 4 steps out into the middle of the road and continued the conversation from there. Turns out they were just preaching jesus, but I thought they were gonna mug me, fucking funny when you think about it.
They were trying to mug you....of your SOUL!!
Eveeeeelllllll, pure EVEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLL like the fru-its of the Dev-iel.
I am just curious because you fundamentalist Christians spend a lot of time discussing evolution, gays and abortion...and awful lot of time! Yet, I rarely if ever hear one of you fundamentalist christians discuss poverty or helping the sick.
I do believe the word of God. I tend to avoid politics, so I don't discuss those topics.
I have however served meals to the poor on holidays (not at the popular, visible shelters) and regularly give to the needy & poor. This is what you'd call giving alms?
Tithing is giving to the church - usually 10% of your gross income. The alternative is giving of your labor/time. I do this too.

This just shows that good people can be found ANYWHERE even in organized religion ....well ALMOST anywhere, we aint got any good politicians
this ones kinda entertaining though, only a politician could do this and stay out of jail...
Well my faith in politicians is restored...the last video made me think he was alright....this one makes me realize he is on level with ole King George afterall...
Tom, I too give of my time. I also play every sunday with my church praise band. However, I don't consider myself a fundamental christian at all, meaning, I place little faith in the story of Genesis, believing quite sincerely that those older books of the bible were told in the traditional "story telling" style, geared towards people who were illiterate and needed ideas presented in the easiest manner possible."
The entire Bible is inspired by the word of God, including Genesis.

My problem is with people who claim the teaching of evolution is what caused 9/11, for example, or that gays caused hurricane Katrina. I think these people are WAY missing the bigger picture of the teachings of Jesus.
Did some groups claim teaching evolution caused 9/11?
I don't fully understand God except from what I've read in the Bible and from my experiences in faith, so that seems like a stretch.

As far as martial arts goes, I don't see how these people can complain that there is a tie to asian philosophy, so therefore martial arts are some sort of devil worship. These people should spend more time learning the actual words of Jesus rather then studying techical points of the bible. Worrying about whether or not the grand canyon was actually created 6000 years ago by Noah's flood is counterproductive, and seriously stops any one with critical thinking ability from becoming a Christian. I have a relative who is the very embodiment of Christian compassion and mercy, yet will never go to church because she cannot swallow the fact that the earth was literally created in 7 days.
Thankfully, there are some evangelicals like Rick warren who are going away from the tradional "just be saved and it does not matter if you are a creep or not" school, and moving into other areas such as P.E.A.C.E. and being good stewards of the environment, IE the "green Christians".
God created us in his own image and we as representatives of him have made some pretty fascinating tools as we come to understand the universe. Most mainstream Christians are for advances in science, technology and medicine and do not consider them works of Satan - rather are concerned about said advances exploiting us in crazy ways for profit.
The Bible states that you are saved by faith alone, however God allows things to happen in our lives to act as corrective measures of our sins.
Ok, I've stated enough of my beliefs and am going to refrain from further religious discussions to keep the peace here.
Let's agree to disagree not to bash all Christians as "fundies" and I won't bash all atheists/agnostics as bigoted, prick assholes...
on top o' that hopefully I got a truce with jubaji
good because i feel most agnostics/atheists dont do enough missionary work to deserve the full bigoted prick #%&* asshole badge i wear so proudly, freakin slackers....when the hell do WE ever knock on YOUR door and ask if you woke the F up yet? ....sheeiiit we could bring a bottle o jack daniels 2 strippers and .....well you get the picture....sorry, no little boys though, you'll have to go to the local priest for that shit....
Who the hell wants a truce with Jubaji??... or gets one for that matter hehehe
i wonder how come nobody ever discusses the muslim perspective when it is so closely tied to the christian perspective. the muslim Koran speaks more about Jesus and Moses then it does about prophet Muhahmmed. the muslims also believe in jesus and moses as prophets of god and greatly details their lives and doings. there are many shared similarities and people in the two faiths, so much so that i believe that knowing about both will give us a fuller understanding of each.
[QUOTE=Tant01]The tetragramation (the four letters used to represent the divine name)[QUOTE]
I've never heard that term tetragramation but with my magical knowledge of latin roots I would guess that you're referring to YHWH? YHWH is a way of representing the Hebrew God's name without spelling it all the way out, which they consider taking the Lord's name in vain, though I do not, so I can tell you it is Yahweh. Refers to the same God as Jehovah and at least one other name which I forget.
That aside, what's in a name? A name is just a way of identifying someone, so if everyone is clear on what's being referred to by 'the Christian God' or 'the Hebrew God' then that's just as good as a name. The name is just a label used by humans. Does anyone really think a being that existed before all other beings would think of himself in terms of a name?
