Whoa...i didnt expect that...so have you experienced the "flesh of the gods" yourself? Its stunning how many times the "little clowns" appear in the bible if you know what to look for.

Are you a fellow traveler or a reader of the works?

No, although I was raised that way. I admire Jesus very much but I firmly believe that he was just a man like the rest of us- you and I are every bit as much "sons of God" as he was. If I hang a label on my beliefs (which I don't like to) I favor Zen Buddhism because it doesn't require me to believe in anything, just to practice; since the practice works for me I'm happy. Personally I like Joseph Campbell's take on religeon. His idea is that once you get past the dogma the different religeons, at their ideal, are all trying to get at the same divine reality. Generally speaking monks from different traditions agree with each other; since they spend their days in sincere prayer and meditiation they come to the same conclusions regardless of back ground. It's the secular clergy that disagrees endlessly.

Actually, since this is in the MMA forum I look on Jesus in much the same way I do the Gracies. I don't have a problem with them, they're good guys and I ccould learn a lot from them even though I don't practice they way they do. It's just the more fanatical of their true believers that annoy the sh!t out of me

I haven't read "Flesh of the Gods" although it's been recommended to me by a couple of friends- I'll pick it up sooner or later I just haven't gotten to it yet. From what I've heard I'm inclined to agree with it for the most part. It's not just limited to the bible though. If you go far back enough in history everyone's ancestors had a shamanic tradition of one sort or another.

Are you a fellow traveler or a reader of the works?

I'm not sure I understand this question- does it come from "Flesh of the Gods"?

The books are called that because the shrooms are called the flesh of the gods...others call it the voice....Billings called them the little clowns because the voice will entertain you as it shows you the wiring underneath the boardwalk so to speak....if you didnt follow then ya aint a traveler its a play on words, when you drop mushrooms you trip...only you never actually leave the farm yet your awareness spreads into many different areas...hence we travel if you have ever dropped you know why they are called the flesh of the gods...all the shamanic traditions are enlightening experiences...a good trip guide is important though it isnt about recreational use...

Its a close shave. But at the end of the day, you believe in God or you believe in other dieties.

Alot of people probably think the same things you do. If you're not anti-Bible, check out the book of Proverbs. I'm going to talk about other stuff now as this kind of conversation tends to stirr people up.

What it means is that there may be some overlap between practices or even beliefs of buddhists and catholic monks, but their faith is what differentiates them.

I believe in God and believe his path to be the right one, so my views will be subjective. That's where my faith is.

Boar, I know you don't believe in God. I have plenty of friends who are non-believers; but they're my friends and that's the best way I can show what little improvements God makes in my life. Its a testimony.

hey man, its evident to me that there is in fact intelligence in the design of man and beast, but im not buying any of the prepackaged crap that is sold to the masses...you dont need 2000 year old books to tell you how to behave, you are a good person. We both assumed Sagacious Lu was a Christian (my most sincere apologies dude, no insult intended...) because of all his views on life....proof one not need be a christian to "follow the Good book" ....funny though the "bad books" have a higher subscription rate...just ask hugh heffner

                      .....

To believe this (as many do) is to not understand the idea of the ransom sacrafice. The Bible is very clear that Jesus is the son of God (the Father)

This theory of Jesus being God in another form is not a scriptural idea but one of the doctrine of the roman catholic church and it's offshoots... It supports the doctrine of god being some form of trinity, again not a scriptural teaching at all. This is why I (and others) consider most christians to be misled... The path is not for the many but the few.

                      John 17:3

i also have a problem with claiming christ to be god in the flesh. although i believe in god, i am not a part of any official religion. however i tend to favor the muslim view that jesus was not an incarnation of god, but rather a prophet like moses, sent to guide. even though i went to catholic school my whole life, the idea of associating a human being with god didnt seem right to me.

alot of people dont know this, but Jesus Christ(Prophet Isa) is a huge part of the muslim religion, and one of their most beloved and respected prophets, as are John the baptist, and the Virgin Mary.

Interesting... it's good that you have an idea of god and I meant to add to my post a bit of the Bible teaching that confirms they are seperate and not the same person. John 17:3 should do...But if not would it make ANY sense at all that Jesus would pray to HIMSELF and call himself the son of God and then in prayer address himself as the Father also? Not to me...

Again the doctrine (catholic) that supports this also calls the wife of Jopseph the mother of god and virgin Mary even though Jesus had (half) brothers from the same mother....

                          Go figure?

                          Mt.6:9-10

The christian teaching that is supported by the Bible is that sin came into the world through the MAN Adam (and death from sin) so the sacrafice that would be of equal value to the man is another (perfect) man, not almighty God himself in the form of a man... but the ransom God paid for MANKIND was His "only begotten" son (Jesus Christ) The sacrafice was the son of God. (Just as Adam was God's son)

                          Romans 5:12-18 Gen. 3:17 Mt. 20:28

I've got a story for YOU....

I don't recall if it was Jack or his buddy Capt. Morgan but I bet you never guess I used to be a bit of a trouble maker back in the day? I have a great BIG cousin that was the tri state terror in wrestling and strong like an ox... I tended to be a bit more confident when we were out doing the bar thing. Okay kinda cocky maybe... I was a 150 pound wimp (judo guy) that would start a fight for anything just to slam somebody I thought deserved it. I got in over my head a few times but this one particular time we ended up in the drunk tank, okay...? (long story short) Well, "Tiny" was pissed off at me for picking the wrong night to start shit and decided he was going home... the only problem was that big ass steel door on the cell we were locked in... he took a run at it and slammed into it so hard he broke the top hinge apart and bent the thing half broken from the wrong side... a picture of the deformed door made the front page!

The bad ideas never end until you're on the wrong side of the law... sometimes not even then.

Glenfiddich is shite. Invest in a bottle of 15 year-old Macallan or Dalwhinnie, and you'll never drink Glenfiddich again. If you're more adventurous, Islay malts are where it's at. Laphroaig, Ardbeg, or Bowmore. Laphroaig is my fave of the three. Glenkinchie is worth a try (Lowland), as is Scapa from the Orkneys, Oban (West Highland), and Talisker (Isle of Skye).

                                Happy drinking!
