I saw it. It was pretty interesting.

It's hard to take watching a huge guy like that sit and cry.

yeah she didn't seem like she was helping matters.

But they said she was an acoholic and drup user. Not good for someone who is trying to detoxify themselves.

But they got married right? I guess you just have to hope for the best for him.

The entire thing was cool, but I did have the same thoughts about his girl that you guys did. What was funny to me is she told him that the only way she would ever leave him was if hit did not stop using. And she was an alcoholic.

THE SMASHING MACHINE : THE LIFE AND TIMES OF MARK KERR: AMERICA UNDERCOVER

It's on HBO East at 10 PM (EST I assume) following 'A Perfect Mind'

Mark Kerr's athletic prowess and determination have brought him to the pinnacle of a sport that is so dangerous, it was once banned in the U.S.: no-holds-barred fighting. This exciting, graphic documentary takes an unflinching look at the dichotomy of Kerr's life--he's King of the Hill in the most brutal sport on Earth. But the scars on his body are nothing compared to those he carries on the inside. An addiction to painkillers that nearly killed him and a flawed relationship are just two of the strains he deals with as he trains for a huge tournament in Japan--where he may have to face his best friend in the ring.

The website has a whole list of 'All showings'.

              Enjoy!

I thoroughly enjoyed the show. As a new fan of MMA, it gave me a much greater appreciation of the athletes and the sport. It was, however, disheartening to see Mark Kerr self-destruct as a result of his drug use. I hope his abuse of drugs isn't rampant throughout the sport, but based on what I've read, I get the sense that steroid use is fairly rampant. I fully support the Nevada State Athletic Commission's testing program and wish that other jurisdictions would do the same.

In the documentry they make NO mention of steroids. He was injecting painkillers. Do you think he took them in the past?

He is 6'1 and was at one point 255-260lbs.

The Kerr special on HBO was awesome and it's coverage of Pride behind the scenes was very interesting. It painted the picture of Kerr being a true 'Titan' or 'Smashing Machine' yet behind the tough guy image a real person was shown with feelings and a dangerous dependance on painkillers and ultimately, this woman who he just couldn't seem to live without despite the fact that she may have been the reason for his lack of training pre-Gran Prix 2000 and probably cost him the championship...the training sessions with Bas were cool and Ricco took some beats from Kerr in training too. Awesome stuff!

That was an awesome documentary. They did a really good job of putting it together. You've got to give Kerr credit for sharing all the private details about his life. If you haven't seen it, make an effort to...it's worth it.

Regarding the possible steroid use, the show does not mention steroids, but many people, including some of the Gracies and Erik Paulson, have alluded to steroid use in MMA. In an issue of Grappling magazine not too many months ago, one guy even wrote a column defending the practice as safe and basically telling opponents of steroid use to mind their own business. I disagree with that view and hope that promoters of MMA shows test the fighters for steroids to discourage their use.

The Mark Kerr documentary highlighted Kerr's abuse of opiates, which are narcotics in the same family of drugs as heroin.

Possible use of steroids? He said he got all his illegal steroids from Mexico and then he proceeded to throw away a large number of vials and syringes, which were not all opiates.

Which program were you possibly watching?

LOL maybe I wasnt paying attention but I thought he only admitted to taking painkillers in the documentry.

I dont want to accuse him or anyone else of anything unless I know 100%.

                            But thanks for that.

I was watching solely for entertainment, but I don't remember anyone ever talking about steroids. When Kerr was talking about Mexico, he was referring to a bunch of drugs that he said were opiates. He also said this in the context of taking things to ease his anxiety and to improve his pain threshold.

When he threw out the vials, it wasn't obvious that any of them contained steroids, unless one is able to determine the contents based on the appearance of the vial, which I certainly can't do.

Anyway, if an ultimate fighter's willing to take opiates, it's not much of a stretch to assume he'll take steroids as well, but like Yella Tiger, I wouldn't want to accuse someone of something I wasn't 100% sure about.
