  • How does this school sound?

The other day at work I was talking to an insturctor at the local karate academy. He was telling me a little about the school and what they teach. He said that they teach karate ( i dont remember what style) but mostly concentrated on self defense, but they throw in a little BJJ, boxing, kung fu, etc. .He aslo said that they have guest intructors that come in once a week from other schools to teach defferent styles of martial arts, and they even have bouncers come to teach some things. The price for membership is great, only $35 a month or $75 a quater (3 months) with a free uniform.

    Tell me what you think.

lol, well i think the price sounds ok, it depends on how many classes a week you have.....wich you left out.
Nobody can realy make an assumption on this school from what you told us.........i say check it out for yourself, try it for a little while if you like it stay, if you dont like it leave. Very simple.

I'm with Kingston for a change. Check out the school. Look at the quality of its students. Even if they are good, keep in mind that throwing in boxing, BJJ, gung fu, karate does not a good self defense school make. Look at the guest instructors that have come in recently. Check up on them. If it's a bunch of karate guys, keep on looking. A good self-defense school is hard to find, and usually isn't dirt cheap (like this school). Be openminded, but be very critical of what you see--make sure it's the real deal.

What Ryan and Kingston said the only way you can find out is to observer and take part.

They have class 3 nights a week and on Saturday mornings. I have never been in the place but I have drove by it a few times.
The man I talked to was a 2nd degree black belt and he sounded like the real deal. He said that most of his students are children with only a few adults. There are no contracts to sign or any strings attached. He told me that he and his fellow instructors arent in it for the money and that he is glad to help anyone out. Ill probably swing by there tomorrow night to check it out.

sounds like a good place. but like i say you can't tell how good a school is just by the instructer telling you so. you need to decide if it is good yourself.

With that price, you really can't go wrong.
