great choice, I am thinking Tongpo as well. Ralph always beat his opponents, but he hurt his rib in the first movie. If it wasn't for that lucky crane kick, he would have lost. Tongpo on the other hand beat Kurt's (Jean Claude Van Dame) brother in extraordinary fashion. I mean did he even break out in a sweat. I have to go with Tongpo!

      Marcio "Pe de Pano" Cruz.

Current World Heavyweight and Open Weight Jiu Jitsu Champion.

      Team member of Gracie Barra.

      Trained by Carlos Gracie Jr.

All you you people who said "Royce" should be ashamed of your lack of knowledge of Jiu Jitsu. I've heard a lot of people say that Royce is at the level of a good purple belt.

Marcio Cruz would tap out Rickson Gracie, Rigan Machado and all their brothers for SURE.

He's the best grappler in the world at the moment.

I don't know why Kevin Randleman is mentioned in there, I think someone like Mark Coleman or Don Frye or Tito represented wrestling better. Outside of MMA there have been many great wrestlers that would destroy the wrestlers that have competed in MMA.

As for Royce Gracie, it's true that Rigan, Rickson, and most top black belts would destroy him, especially with that gi on. But he represented bjj better than anyone else in mma and nhb fighting. Noone, with the possible exception of Noguiera, made the impact on mma using bjj like Royce did. Everyone knows who Royce Gracie is, people that don't follow bjj and mma most probably have never even heard of the other guys.

It bothers me in boxing that the heavyweights seem to claim so much more glory than other weight classes. Julio Cesar Chavez, is, in my opinion, one of the best pound for pound fighters ever despite the fact that his record was obscured when he continued to fight when he was over the hill and pushing 40. Roy Jones and Sugar Ray Leonard also were among the all time greatest.

Sakuraba and Frank Shamrock are both good choices for great MMA competitors.

Well Kevin Randleman's name was probably was mentioned, because Mark Coleman was his coach. Coleman trained Kevin in wrestling at Ohio State University. Kevin Randleman also gave Bas Rutten a run for his money. Bas won on decision, but in my opinion Kevin whipped him good. I believe it was UFC XXXII

UFC fighters would have been mashed by the fighters of old!! Gladiators etc, we are the weakest incarnation of man. the ancient peoples would pound us proper!!

as for the best fighters, that is a real hard one!!

Dong Hai Chuan - founder of ba gua and undefeated in every challange match that he took up untill his death.

Sokaku Takeda - Japanese founder of Daito Ryu Aiki JuJutsu - again - travelled around the east kicking many a masters ass!!!

and both would have the Tito Ortiz unconcious in a very short amount of time!!!

they would have to be two of my favorites.

            Cheers
            Chris

I like that, this is a unique post. Most of us mentioned martial artists of today. You took us back to the original founders.

Ok, how could you forget Michael Dudikof. He's the freakin' AMerican Ninja. They can fly and control minds and crap.

A ninja uses steath, and are very very intelligent. They belong to a class all there own. Ninjas would rule out a lot of the mentioned fighters, due to their sher steath.

Bruce Lee should definitely be up there. I liked his escape from the armbar just bite down on the guy's leg

This is a question more than an opinion.

Regarding Sakuraba, didn't he get shalacked by Vanderlei Silva? And Vanderlei Silva was shalacked by Vitor Belfort.

I've seen a couple of his fights, and if Saku deserves to be on the list, so does Vitor at the same, if not higher, level.

                      thoughts?

You guys are hillarious! Ok there's one way to settle this. Either the Jerry Springer Show or Fantasy UFC (like Fantasy Football). I vote Fantasy UFC. Here are some fight cards that I have put together:

                        Tongpo vs. Karate Kid
Mr. Miyagi vs. Jackson (Van Dammes big friend in blood sport)
Rocky vs. Gym Kata (no swords alowed)
                        Bruce Lee vs. Spock
                        Eminem vs. pikachu

We could have "Top Trumps" carss for all the fighters, past and present.

The question is....if Jean-Claude from Kickboxer fought Daniel from the Karate Kid...who would win???

As for Michael Didikoff, then American Ninja - I can't see Tito Ortiz, oe even Bruce Lee changing his costume in an instant (using a smoke bomb)! All fighters should be scared of him! I would!

How about Sho Kosugi? Wasn't he a Ninja too?

This is just like the WWE!

                            Place your bets now!!

I think the fighters would be embarassed if they couldn't change their clothes fast enough behind those smoke flashes. I think that Bruce Lee would be able to do it quickly though. He's really fast. He's so fast that when the smoke dissipates, he would be sitting on a bar stool, wearing glasses and slurping a bowl of chili garlic noodles with chopsticks, whereas our gymkata friend Dudikof would probably be combing his hair to get ready for the fight.

And Bruce will be in his yellow "Game of Death" costume too!
