  • Just scared the shite out of my self

I was doing a bit of weights in my bedroom. And i was just comming to my last rep on the bentch press when my left arm decided to lock up...
my arms were fully extended at the time and about 1 intch below the fork bit of the bentch where the bar rests onto.. so my right arm stayed in the air and my left arm just calapsed. Ended up with my right hand trapped between the bar and the rest and the other side of the bar had come down and rested on the left side of my neck.. I had to edge my hand and out from being trapped which was the only thing that was stopping the right side of the bar full of weights from landing on my head.. So i edged my hand out and moved my head out of the way as quick as posible..
My hand a bit ferked but i still have my head.
Ive been training for years and never had someone to spot for me
Needless to say i will in the future..
After the weights crashed to the floor my bro come running up the stairs shouting wots going on..

Sorry about Kingston. he thinks it is funny to take the piss out of disabled people, so you can imagine what a wank face he is.

Anyway, for bench pressing some kind of spotting/safety system is absolutely essential.

Go to www.bodypower.co.uk and see the "power rack and attachments" section I have the York 3000 safety cage. Basically there are adjustable safety arms set at a height to "catch" the bar if you fail.

You could also rig up something yourself (two chairs where the weights will rest in the down position perhaps?)

Whatever, don't Bench or Squat without or, as the Daleks say, "You will be exterminated!"

I never lift weights when I'm working out alone. I always use the machines. I know it's not the same but it's a lot safer.
