  • Need to know which road I should take

I'm 17 and 6'3. I work out 6 days a week. I shadowbox 3 times a week and do some of Bruce Lee's exercises, such as punching 12 sets with weights.

I watch a lot of the street fighting videos, such as the TRS videos.

I don't want to learn one style and only do that style. I want to learn Jeet Kune Do, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Akikido etc...

I live in Pembroke Pines, Florida. About 30 minutes from Miami.

I want to start getting into it, but I dont know how to start and which one to start with. I don't know any good schools around here. My goal is to be a good street fighter.

My advice is to become a good martial artist and a good athlete.
To be a good street fighter is what I believe to be wrong. If you get into street fights, sooner or later, someone will have a gun or a knife or...what ever.
The true martial artist doesn't look for street fights.
I know many guys that used to do that and grew up and realized that there is more than to be good in street fights.
You may have been picked on growing up so you want to now learn the skills and have the confidence not to back down from a challege or a situation in the street.
It's tough to back down or walk away, when idiots get in your face in a bar, or in some other confrontation.
BUT if you want the confidence to be able to defend yourself, that is a whole different situation and mind set.
If this is the case, then cross train at a few different school to acquire the skills needed.
I would suggest that you go to schools nearby and ask lots of questions.
It's easy to go and travel far to a great school, but the commute will be tough.
Go to a school that is near your house and jump in and start training to see what type of school you really enjoy.
Stick to the schools you really like since training and becoming adept will be much better when you have the motivation to put the time and energy into it.
I believe it's better to be good at one or two martial arts, than to take several and be mediocre at them all.

dont do this just to be able to street fight. street fighting is way different than any martial art. in the streets, its the dirtiest that wins. whoever can get the most groin kicks, face rakes, eye gouges wins, no matter if you're bruce lee or not. if you start looking for street fights after 3 month of BJJ thinking your tough shit, you'll be in for a rude awakening and something that will ruin you life like being paralyzed or losing an eye or quite possibly, especially in cities like ATL and Miami, ****ing shot up.

if you wanna be a better street fighter, than get your ass in the streets because you do not belong in martial arts.

also, a word of caution, if you're going to punch with weights, do not fully extended your punches. you could seriously **** up your elbow that way.

give yourself more rest days. working out more does not necesarrily mean you'll get stronger faster. getting bigger and stronger starts and ends with rest and food. get plenty of it.

hi i think boxing and brazillian jujitsu are two styles you should invest in or boxing and wrestling. boxing will teach you to handle getting hit and the wrestling or bjj will help you on the ground.

You took what I said about street fighting alittle the wrong way. I don't want to just learn how to street fight just to be able to kick a drunk guys ass. I want to learn the art. But, I want to be an all around martial artist.

I remember guys coming in from all over the place to train with Royce Gracie and then disappear after a month or so.

You can train a lot of different martial arts.
I remember talking to one guy and he trained in just about every martial art you can think of, and many I never heard of too.

It's better to emphasize just two, ground and stand up training.
            that's what I would do.

                  that's what I would pick.
I train in just BJJ but if I were to pick a stand up, I like Muay Thai, but there are many other good ones out there too

I think Marcus "Conan" Silveira has a school in Miami. He's a former Vale Tudo fighter and student of Carlson Gracie Sr.

Its at least worth a visit!!
