  • Can Tank really bench 620 lbs.? (ATTN. Ground Control)

I'm sure this has been talked about on this forum, but do you guys really think Tank can bench 620 lbs.? I heard that on one UFC, they showed him doing this, WHICH UFC WAS IT???? I have never seen it. Also Tank claims to have never juiced. Ground Control, seeing you are a former power lifter and admitted former steroid user, do you think Tanks clean? I don't see why he would deny it. If it's true that he IS clean, imagine him on the sauce!?!

I wouldn't doubt that he can. martin lapointe, professional hockey player for the detroit red wings, can bench 450lbs. he is known as the strongest guy in hockey, and weighs just over 200lbs.

      I've benched 300 before. And I'm 180...

(machine though...freeweights is around mid 200's)

Although I never saw the video footage, I remember the weight being 600, and that Tank bounced it off of his chest; different from a competition lift with the pause & judge's clap. Had he performed it in that manner, I imagine the weight would've been considerably less. He very well may or have not used steroids, but someone of his stature could definately press that much naturally.

No wonder he hits so freaking hard! That's some serious fast-twitch fiber! Even just arm-punching he can mess someone up. Remember when he floored Frye with just his jab? Good thing he's such a slob otherwise.

Igor is very strong as well, I hear. He has beaten Coleman in arm-wrestling.

I'd love to see Igor and Tank go at it. That would be prehistoric. I bet on Igor; Tank would have to kill him to make him quit, since he doesn't have the skill to do what Coleman did.

Ronin: Contrary to popular belief, on a gram for gram basis 'fast twitch (IIa & IIb) fibers are capable of no greater maximal force production than those of slow twitch; the primary difference in their force production characteristics is the time interval it takes for them to achieve maximal tension. Hence, why proportional fiber makeup normally isn't heavily influential in sport lifting & maximal strength feats.

                YeLLa TiGeR:

I probably read it on this Forum. I have heard the same story a couple of times, and apparently Coleman confirmed it. It was just a friendly arm-wrestling match, but still, Coleman was impressed. I'm sure he doesn't lose contests of strength very often, esp. to a lighter individual. This was back-stage at Pride, prior to the GP.

Incidentally, Gary Goodridge is apparently an international arm-wrestling champ.

                Ober:

Okay, I will make a comment proportionate to my level of expertise in exercise physiology:

"Gosh! He shure is done strong!"

                Nitpicker.

I think it's not unrealistic that he could do it without juicing. I didn't see the clip, but I doubt he'd be wearing typical powerlifting gear, such as a bench shirt, etc. If this is the case, regardless of it bouncing on his chest, I'd be quite impressed to see it. Another thing I'll have to confirm from tapes, aren't his arms kind of short?

And more importantly, what does he squat/dead?

Speaking of arm wrestling has anyone hear seen Big Daddy Goodridge armwrestle. Goodridge is a worldclass armwrestler. I'm serious, I saw him in some worldclass arm wrestling tournament where he destroyed everyone. I believe I saw him in ESPN.

I don't remember which tourney it is, either JVT97 or
Pride 6, but the only english they showed on the fighter bios was name and style.

                        Big Daddy Goodridge

                        Armwrestle

                        I thought that was hilarious.

Thanks Ronin, yeah I sorta thought Vovchanchin was the stronger guy in MMA. But I would also think he would lose to Goodridge and I think Kerr could be stronger than Coleman.

                            Goodridge is probably the strongest.

He certainly proves that strength isn't everything.
