  • What do you consider a "TROLL"??

I am both a fighter, and a fan of fighters. I find this forum very informative. Alot of my questions that I have asked, have been answered, and with that knowledge I have gained, I am able to use it in a positive way.

I enjoy the questions and comments here, and if I have an answer to a question that is being asked, I will freely give my input in hopes that it will benefit someone who is reading the threads / posts.

With this in mind, would I be considered a "troll" by most standards? And if so, why is it considered a bad thing? (I've been noticing that whenever someone is labeled a troll, they are ridiculed, and looked down upon as pests, etc.)

If I am only giving "informative" input, as opposed to "disrespecting" or what is considered "uninformative" or "unvalid info", would I still be considered a troll?

Let me close by saying that I don't consider myself one, and I wouldn't like it if someone thought otherwise, but from some of the comments that I've read here, as soon as you post your "thoughts" or "comments" (and if someone disagrees with your comments), you are considered a "troll".

Help me out on this subject please. Thanks.

    Ronnie.

      rockin:

No problem. A "troll" is someone who makes inflammatory comments in order to stir up trouble. This usually involves saying something they don't really mean, or is perfectly ridiculous. For instance, the other day Joe Manco said he was boffing my ex-girlfriend just to get a rise out of me. Neither of us has ever met Joe (I hope )

If you make a comment that goes against accepted Forum wisdom, i.e. Rickson Gracie is a pathetic ground-fighter, you will be dismissed as a troll, because obviously Rickson is a master on the ground. However, if you say "Rickson's punches are sloppy", you may still be attacked, but at least you are on firmer ground.

If you just give your honest opinions, people will realize you are not a troll. However, as all experienced Forum members know, trolling can be a lot of fun. Just try not to be a complete ass 24/7...like Joe Manco.

      See? Easy.

A "troll" is not someone who says something that people disagree with, a troll is someone who cleverly deceives people into wasting their time responding to his topic. A good troll might appear on the board and make naive comments about mma, then when a few dozen people respond indignantly, the troll is nowhere to be seen. The troll takes pleasure in the fact that people took him seriously and is not interested in discussing anything.
I went to the Underground for fun recently and put a thread up saying that I was a green belt in shorin ryu karate and that my teacher could beat Frank Shamrock and in the next 24 hours, I had over 50 furious responses. It was kind of funny.
I also did a troll here a couple months ago pretending to be an amateur boxer named Elron who had seen UFC Japan and put a thread titled "why I'm not impressed by bjj" based on that. I got some serious responses, but most people including Patterson, recognized that I was a troll.
In conclusion, trolling is much easier at the Underground than at Mousel's.

...because many of the people on the Underground are 12-years-old and/or complete boneheads.

But aren't there two kinds of trolls?

The one's like Phantom I am already aware of (by the way, who is Phantom really?),

but then there's the ones that just spew trash, right?

I not trying to sound "absolutely GREEN" - Phantom and others are not intentionally trying to hurt - they're just having fun - but there seem to be people that truly do try their best to insult / slander / misinform, etc.

Anyway, I think I've got my answer. Thanks.

              Ronnie.

Phantom? I have no idea who he really is...

But yeah there are different types of trolls around. You'll see them all if you hang out here long enough. Hell, go to http://www.ashidakim.com if you want to see some disgusting trolling...
