  • promotion inn bjj

my teacher in bjj said i am ready to promote, but i want to get the promotion from a well known name!! it looks good in the fight profile if i have been promoted by a well known person. like gracie or others. anybody who have expirience with this?

From what i've heard, promotion in bjj is very hard to acheive and grades are not handed out easily. What belt are you due to be promoted to Kluten?

I would have to say it isn't all about who your instructor is, but it certainly helps in attracting students. But if you're good, you're good, no matter who you instructor is.

As long as your teacher is a black belt then he can give you a promotion. You don't need to get it from a big name as long as you have the technique and rolling experience. The only way it would ever look bad was if you went somewhere else to train and that instructor thought you weren't ready. Even if you lost quickly in a tournament it wouldn't matter because all sorts of wierd stuff happens in competition.
If you've been working with this instructor then don't you think it's rather rude and ungrateful to want to get the new belt from someone 'better known'? I say just take it from him since he taught you.
