I don't see why you would want to tap to a choke in competition. If you do pass out its not a big deal.

Its still a loss..whether you tap or not...

If the sub is in..and theres no chance of getting out....TAP!!...why the hell not??

      Broken arm, blown out knee.....nah....

foolish not to tap... I think its more stupid than brave to not tap...This IS a sport...

            On tapping out

Only a moron wouldn't tap out if caught 100% in a lock.

Think about it. How much $$$ are you getting paid to win. And if its a hobby or a local competition chances are the payback is a little more than ego involved.

If you love grappling you can't be out cause of injuries. So tap. Look at it this way.. if you're caught assume there's NO WAY OUT. When pro's get caught its usually over, that's the mistake. So you forcus on not getting caught. And that's will make your game better.

              tapping

Well the thing about tapping here is that if you are in a position where you should tap. You've already lost the fight. Are you not tapping because you think you can win the fight after you've been choked out or have had a limb broken.
I believe in the never giving up thing, as long as you still have a chance. I've been really down on Ken Shamrock for giving up against Fujita. But if you've lost, you've lost.
If you make a sport fighter hurt you after you've lost, you're just being a jerk.

I'd tap to a choke in competition. Royce Gracie didn't and my instructor [Marcel Perdomo - Carlson Gracie Team] was on hand cheering for Walid and guess what, he fell asleep in front of the whole country while everyone laughed at him. I know I'm not gonna be in a BJJ tourney in front of an entire country, but the last thing I wanna do is pass out in front of my parents and girlfriend; and especially not in front of my friends. Now thats emberassing. Breaking your arm is less emberassing and some may think its manly, but I'm still not up for it
