how do you guys have your foot when you kick? do you change the position of the ancle according to where on the body you are going to hit? if you are kicking to the thigh/shin, are you pointing the toes in the direction of the kick, or do you straigthen out the ancle? i tend to straigten out the ancle no matter how/where i kick, but is that good for the shin?

Depends on the target and the intended effect.

Kick to the thigh or shin is usually done with the shin. it's safer.

Kick to the abdomen ball of the foot

Kick to the neck, shin or instep depending on the purpose of the kick

kick the the jaw, or other bony surface, Ball of foot with Retraction to prevent damage to the fragile bones in the foot.

Usually Toes pointed (instep kick) is used in sparring to reduce damage by increasing surface area of the strike or to cover an area to stun a nerve.

Combat you should probably limit yourself to using the shin or ball of the foot.

You can run with broken toes, but running with a broken instep or ankle is a totally different story. And if you break your shin throwing a kick, you either need to learn to target better or drink more milk.

If you break your shin while kicking, what will be the damage to the opponent, only if it collides with a hard object, can it break but it is one of the larger bones in your body, so what could break it (baseballbats and stuff like that not counted)

Your opponents hip bone could break it. Ask retired.

I know Hipbones are hard, everyone that punched me there(why?? I do not know) hurt their hand

Did he break his own or the opponents shin?

              broken shin sounds really nasty

On roundhouse sideways so that the hit happens with the shin. On frontkick I kick with the bottom of the foot. Sidekicks I rarely use.

Due to a heavy reliance on TKD theories, in the past I used a variety of kicks. However, after dabbling in grappling, boxing and a bit of Muay Thai, my kicking is very limited. I use three kicks: front kick, side kick (stop kick) and MT low roundhouse kick. The three points of contact are: ball of foot, heel and shin/instep. In sparring, I practice higher kicks to test my theories, but in a real fight, high kicks would be limited if not non-existent. Perhaps for finishing moves if the situation presents itself.

                      finishing moves

                      finishing moves

                      thats a good point

do normal fighting/self defense training but at the same time work on some flashy finishing moves

                      imagine:

someone pushes you so you punch them. they start trying to block so you low roundhouse kick then hip throw them onto the floor. as they get up it is clear that they are confused and unable to defend themselves, any normal person would either leave them or finish them with a standard combat effective move such as a punch. instead you decide that your going to win any way so you might as well win in style. you reverse round house kick them. as they fall you do a twisty wristy aikido throw. finaly before they get up again, an axe kick to their head. the crowd goes wild
"did you see that. he knows kung fu. lets give him money. ill get on his good side by allowing him to sleep with my incredibly attractive girl friend (in fact ill order her to do it!)."

it doesnt matter that the moves wouldnt have worked at the beggining while the opponent was still able to fight back. whats important is that people will remember how it ended. youll be a hero

although it might make other people want to fight you just to prove your moves dont really work...

why would u kick to the shin? doesnt make sense to collide a hard body part with another hard body part.

                          conditioning

When it comes to conditioning i have heard many, many different ways. But how is it to condition the shins? so far i have only used a tree-post with some padding and a bag, earlier i used a roll-pin.. many fun ways:P but how is it best to condition it?

best way to condition is to kick things alot. And allow proper healing time.
