  • small handguns for self defense

Okay everyone let me here your opinions and reasons for those opinions.

I would like to know what is the smallest handgun that is still suitable for self defense as well as being reliable and easily concealed.

    Thanks

      Guns are bad.

      You shouldn't have a gun.

And you certainly shouldn't carry a gun.

      The police will protect you.

well, i'm sure with a desert eagle under my suit coat my sales close rate would increase dramatically.

So seriously, does anybody have any suggestions.

some of the areas I have to go to at night are less than desirable places. Not to mention standing out like a sore thumb in my suit and tie.

Desert Eagle .50 Cal? What are you planning on doing with it? Shooting down low-flying airplanes?

Go for a Glock. They're solid weapons. This isn't really a good place to look for firearms advice.

            ryanhall is correct sir.

If you want some good advice go to www.selfdefenseforums.com and ask your question there.

However, be warned that this group of folks all tend to be a wee bit high strung, so mind your manners and speak softly lest they gang rape and subsequently ban you. To date I have narrowly avoided such a dire predicament meself.

The upside is that they DO know all about guns and knives.

            Enjoy,

            Spanky

Haven't seen anybody too keen to be shot with a .32 or even a .22.

I'd rather not get shot by anything at all. That said, get a man's gun (no offense to the female members of the forum). A .22 doesn't cut it. Might as well use a bee bee gun.

                      I've seen 22 autos that hold 9 +1

Even if I only hit with half I betcha you'd sing a different tune son.

Really? I'm not a gun expert, but from what I've heard from co-workers and relatives is that glocks have the tendancy to jam.

I guess those mafia guys who whacked guys using a .22 were sissies. Ryan the goal is to find a gun for self defense and for the average joe means something light weight, unobtrusive and easy to handle, not something to compensate for a small johnson. My favorite compromise is a .38 snub revolver.

Compensate for a small Johnson? LMFAO. But seriously, I would rather go with a gun with better stopping power. I suggested a Glock, not a Desert F#ckin Eagle.

There's a difference between being an assassin/hitman and an assailed civilian. One is a hunter, and the other is the hunted that must turn the tables. When you are the hunter, you get the first shot and probably the only shot. You choose the time and place. You are also not so whacked on adrenaline that your motor skills don't serve you very well anymore. A head shot with anything will do the trick, but center mass with a .22 might not get the job done quickly enough. (Note to Spanky: that doesn't mean that I want you to shoot me five times to prove otherwise.)

I don't want a gun for Joe Average, I want a gun for me. If I'm 6'5", then a big gun can work. If I'm 5'4", I'll want a smaller piece.

Then why did you suggest that .22 in the first place? Reverse compensation?

I also suggested a snub nose, so I'll let you draw your own conclusion.

I suggested the .22 because I know a couple of people who carry them because they're unobtrusive. Granted they also keep other things handy in their homes and transportation.
