I wish everyone would quit quoting bruce friggin' lee.......fact of the matter is some people are born fighters and some are born wussies.......simple as that........some people can fight natural and some people can't fight no matter how much training they get.
Training does help but if you are not meant to be a fighter you never will be.

I don't know if its that simple falcon. You can't judge a book by its cover. I think if I saw Royce Gracie or He Il Cho standing in line at the grociery store, not knowing who they are or what they do I wouldn't think of them as fighters. Afterall, Royce is barely 6' and weighs between 170-180. Master He Il Cho looks about 5'8" -5'9" and maybe 160 dripping wet.
If someone called them a derrogatory remark and they left without argue, one would incorrectly assume that they are not 'fighters' either. In this situation, some people might even call them wusses.
But if someone were trying to invade their homes or if they were squaring off in a ring, we might see different behavior. Their public personalities don't have alot of fight. And as I've heard from many people, the Gracies are even polite and professional in their challenge matches.Last edited by Tom Yum; 07-18-2003, 05:38 PM.

Training does help but if you are not meant to be a fighter you never will be.I dont think its fair to say that this guy could beat that guy just because of the martial art hes an expert in...seagal said it best, just because you know martial arts doesnt mean you can beat up an average guy on the streets...youll have a better chance of beating someone up if you know martial arts, but its not bulletproof and you might get your ass handed to you...

I am not saying that you can look at someone and tell they are a fighter.......looks are decieving.......some of the badest guys I have ever fought never trained a day in there life, hence what I was saying that some people were just born fighter and with the right training they are the best........

I am agreeing with Tom Yum.
I do not beleive that you can have a born fighter. Ok there are ganitics that will give a say on the physic and medical status. But training is what makes a fighter.
Do you think the shaoliun monks got so good at fighing by not training from the age a 6. The same for Muay thai fighters in Thailand.
Its training that makes the fighter.

Some people have overcome adversity in their lives as children or teens and grow up rough and tough, fighting in their own home or trying to stay alive on the streets. You could argue that this makes them a 'fighter'. The only side effect is the emotional scarring which can get them into trouble if its not channeled. Like Tyson - a born fighter whose skills were unbeatable in the 80s focused by his adopted father/coach Cus who unfortunately passed away before Tyson could reach his peak. Without a rational father figure to give Tyson advice, he started getting himself into trouble and fell from glory. The streets are filled with roughians who are very capable fighters with no formal training, but against a proven fighter with formal training I think its not a level playing field.
One of my friends first NHB fights was against a guy tatooed head to toe with a shaved head, sported a body builder phsyique and intimidated the heck out of my friend. The guy charged over, swang 2-3 haymakers and got answered with a thai kick and r cross to his gut. The guy timbered onto the mat for 10 and tried to claim he was hit in the groin, but the welt in his midsection was plain as day.
On the flip side you have kids who enter muay thai camps at the age of 6 or the Shaolin temple (China) whos training makes them into unstoppable fighters as well. Chuck Liddell got started later in life and even worked as an accountant before he started kickboxing and eventually fighting in MMA.
But as you suggest, some people shy away from fighting (nothing wrong with it) and persue other hobbies that have nothing to do with it.Last edited by Tom Yum; 07-18-2003, 07:17 PM.

The way I see it fighting is like golf......it is a hard game to master but some people pick up the club the first time and you show them what to do and they just do it......on the other hand there are people that practice for years and never get good at it.....I was just thinking about golf cuz I went play today.......I say I played but I only made it through the first hole before I through out my friggin' shoulder again.....I am gonna have to stay off of that thing if I am gonna make it to Aug. 2nd.
