One place is called AHN’s fitness center it says it is run by Grandmaster E.C Ahn 9th degree blackbelt and it says a lot of other stuff about him it says he’s in the karate hall of fame its tae kwon do.
There is another school it’s Eatern Kenpo Karate society. That’s about all it says there are a couple of ATA schools in my town too. What do you guys think

Firstly decide why you want to do martial arts, research both arts to see which martial art will be best help you to reach your goal. Go to both places and see which one you like best. Taekwondo and karate are both traditional martial arts, they look good but aren't always useful for self defense. Taekwondo prefers the use of kicks and has many jumping and spinning kicks. For self defense I would say that Muay Thai (Thai boxing) and Brazillian Jiujitsu would be best.

There is a list floating on a thread of things to look for when seeking self defense training.

            1) Full Contact Training
            2) Adrenaline response training
            3) A good mixture of striking and grappling
            4) Weapons work
            5) Operating from the ground and from standing
            6) And of course there's always the price to consider.

The thread was asking which was better: TKD or kenpo karate. Besides we don't know for sure what verbel wants, maybe they saw the matrix reloaded and want to learn flying kicks. Verbel, decide what you want then try both schools, if you want realistic self defense then look for the things that Szczepankiewicz described.

Telling someone to stay away from any style, or that a certain style is a waste of time, etc. is just ignorant. You need to decide what you want to get out of training, if it's strictly self defense, sport, a workout, whatever. Only you can answer that, and then give it 100%. Down the line you may decide on different reasons for training, whatever you decide, you'll be able to find something to accomodate what you want to achieve.

The only problem I have with Muay Thai and BJJ (especially BJJ) is that they are designed for 1v1 fighting. This could be a serious problem in the real world. If you use BJJ and take someone down and put an arm lock on him, while you are breaking his arm, his friend is shoving his steel toes thru your skull. But, if you are looking for a workout, certainly boxing is great.

                    Your logic seems flawed !

You are concerned with fighting multiple attackers,
before you have learned to fight one?

First you learn to fight a single opponent.
                    Thats hard enough.

                    Multiple attackers,
                    think about it,
if they are at least as good as say you,
then its a struggle to fight one opponent.
But if there were several, all as good roughly as you then believe me, no training will help you.
                    except perhaps .....sprinting !
And yes I speak from experience !

You seem to think that multiple attackers is like the movies ???
Learn to fight one first !

OK, there is a martial arts novice in a smaller town in Georgia who wants to evaluate a TKD school vs a Kenpo school.
He started a thread on Defend.net.

                      Are you helping him?

Whichever style you take you will probably end up thinking that it is superior to the other style. You are open minded now but be warned: practicing any martial art may make you biased towards it... until you give it up, then you will dislike it more than other arts.

Hey Ryta, just how many barfights have you been in then? If this is a regular occurance for you then I don't think martial arts are going to help you. Most people do manage to go to bars every weekend and not get into fights. And instead of going around calling Brits a bunch of arrogant punks, why don't you tell us what martial art you use for fending off mutliple attackers? Btw, if you are going into British pubs calling them all arrogant then I can see how a swarm of people would be collapsing on you all the time.

How many times have you gotten into a bar fight and the other guy is a golden glove or something? Not in my experience. If you know the other guy is better than you, there is always a way out.
YOU seem to think you are the only person who has ever been in a fight, or has any experience to offer. Dude, you are so UK, such an arrogant prick.
Rita, when you talk like this is it any wonder you get beaten up so many times in bars.
From each quote that you post,
I realise more and more that you know less and less.

Real Bar fights dont have much to do with martial arts,
but this seems to escape you.

If you are in one of your gender/bender bars that you frequent,
and someone takes a dislike to you, (presumably because you keep following them to the toilets),
then what are they going to say to you
"hey Rita, I think I'll sort out this little dispute by challenging the opponent to a session of unarmed combat, namely the deadly art of akido"????

You may as well say"i'm a lover not a fighter, fancy a quick shag mate"!
That would suit you down to the "ground" !
                            (thats your "ground game")
Rita, You are a woman trapped in a mans body,
you can only do feminine martial arts,
when it comes to the real stuff,
your feminine side takes over and you cant cope,
So Mr Big - Bar Fighter, the truth is more like...
unless it's on the net, where you feel alll safe and secure,
with your martial art books and your lipstick and blusher !

                            Keep taking the hormones,
but they do make you come out with such niave trash,
the likes of which has never been seen on this forum, or any forum.

Being from the UK, can I confirm that I object to the word 'arrogant' in the 'arrogant prick' description? Some of us pricks are really quite approachable.
