    Active != Aggressive.

    From everything I've read/learned from anywhere from Sun Tzu to stuff on this board, i think the consensus is that an 'empty mind' is the best way to fight. i.e. emotionless, i.e not to be angry.

    You don't have to be angry to not be passive. You can be active and have a (relatively) clear and calm mind, otherwise the anger just gets in the way from what I have experienced.

      i don't think i want anger i think agression is ok to a degree but in large amounts it will make u lose focus. U fight better when u are angry/aggressive kos u have addrenaline, adrenaline is your friend lol. it increases strength speed and provided u can focus and not let it overwhelm u, it is a good thing. Don't fight with someone when angry. Anger causes fights and fighting is best avoided.

        A Zen quote shamelessly googled and posted here:

        Attaining such emptiness is never easy.

        A Chan Master once undertook the instruction of a novice who was having great difficulty in detaching himself from the persons of his former, secular life. "You cannot serve the Dharma until you sever these bonds," said the Master. "You must destroy these possessive relationships! Kill them! Regard them as if they no longer existed!"

        The novice asked, "But my parents? Must I slay them, too?"

        And the Master replied, "Who are they to be spared?"

        "And you, Master," said the novice, "must I kill you, too?"

        And the Master smiled and said, "Don't worry. There is not enough of me left for you to get your hands on."

          In the street maybe but in the ring I tend to disagree. If you continously throw blows to your opponent you'll be totally whacked by the end of the first round and probably knocked out in the third.

          To some degree you have to let your opponent throw a few shots at you while you re-compose yourself.

          Let them throw a combo at you then block and counter as he stops throwing shots

            In my view this thread shows just how dangerous so called martial arts training can be towards real fighting.

            You need to hit with hate. Explode with rage. Kill or get killed.

            Sounds melodramatic? Maybe so. But this is the state of mind you need to be in for a real encounter. And you must train to acheive it at will.
