  • The Practice Hall and Aldo Nishkam

I'd like to tell a story: I had a gentleman of the name
Aldo Nishkam come into my place and offer to teach BJJ
classes. He was a brown belt under Joe Moreira. The
deal was he would teach the BJJ classes and
we would share the profits. Great, what a deal. I
mean, It's not everyday a BJJ brown belt walks into
your place and asks if you would like him to teach.

However life is not that simple. As tempting as it was
I like to keep things above the board and legal. So
off I go to get some advise as to how I can do this
and not have the IRS upset with me. Folks, there's no
way around the law. He's either working for you or
he's not. If he's working under your business license,
then he's your employee. There's forms and legel stuff
    that has to be done.

This is were it goes bad. One of the forms you HAVE to
have is a I-9, Verification of employment eligibility,
Immigration and Naturalization Service. The problem was
his card was expired. Not legel for me to employ.
Not legel for me to allow him to work at the Practice
Hall, no matter how you try to work it.

I'll keep the story short, the the long and the short
of it, was after I asked to see proof of right to work,
he started to try to placate me. Telling me that it
would be all right, I wouldn't get in any trouble, he
was my friend and he would take care of me. Soon he
would have his new card. Why did I need this form,
no one else had ever asked for such a form. He had
never even heard of such a form. But always it came
back to how I was to let him work under the table.
Finally I felt I had no choice but to break off having
anything to do with him and asked him to leave. Things
became worse. In the end he began threating me with
how he was going to tell BJJ world that I was a fruad
and was falsely teaching BJJ. It got to such I point
that I had to call the police to get him to leave.

I was really bummed out over this, everyone in the
Practice Hall had liked him and thought he was a good
instructor. But I can't help but believe that he knew
what he was doing. That by working under my licence,
he was asking me to put at risk everything I had.
That he was counting on me not knowing about the I-9
and if that had been true, I would now be F*CKED and
he didn't give a damn about that.

I wouldn't have posted this except for the threats,
so if you hear bad things about me and the Practice
Hall, you will know were it's coming from.

This seems quite interesting. I am 14 years old and live in Richmond, Va, and by sheer coincidence am taking BJJ classes by the same person. He seems like a very nice man and one that definetly knows what he is doing. I am finding it hard to believe that he would threaten someone. I would very much like to resolve this matter. Thank you.
