I think Machado should just go back to the regular Blue or Red "M" design.... their new design looks..... uh..... feminine.

just got my new krugan Kimono. bleached, 22oz it is thick and heavy, but after rolling in it fo about 30 min, it softens up just right. it cost me $78 from kruguns.com
it is traditional bjj kimono, no patches, but i buy my patches from
brazilianfightwear.com...good sight.
I am also looking for a site that sells more patches and cheaper gi's for my 5 year old son.

(Thusly I ressurect the Gi post...)
I just got me a bramby new Machado Single Weave, Natural unbleached.
Compared to the hybrid, it's alot lighter and pliable, great for the hot days here in the everlasting desert I live in where somedays we were training in 115 degree heat, I wish i had it then.
I like it alot. I wasn't sure how much I would like the natural color, but now I kinda like it, it's got that "no nonsense" feel to it. I am leaving it patchless to enhance that effect. My Hybrid is bleached and has got a spattering of patches on it, so that can be my Nascar gi.
Once I started rolling in the single weave, I didn't notice anything different from the Hybrid, so I guess that's a good thing. Since it's thinner, it does tend to bend more and be more casual, whereas the hybrid can want to "pop" open at the lapels. All in all, Machado just makes great stuff.
And the pants... the pants are Brazil cut, gotta love that, haha.

Freaking-a dempsy, what are you, made of money??
Ken,
I have two gi's an HCK double blue and an Ouano single weave blue.
The HCK is very well made and weaved. It's double weave which means it's pretty heavy and the collar is very think. Doesn't stretch at all.
The Ouano single is the opposite. Since's it's a single it's very light . it also stretches quite a bit, when I am done rolling it's much baggier than when I started. Also there's some threads starting to come loose on the bottom and the edges.
Basically you get what you pay for. When I got the Ouano I didn't know much about Gi's... there's a reason the price is so low, it's a trade-off for quality.

Made of money??
The Hybrid Weave was 100 bucks that I bought a while ago.
The Single Weave was 74 bucks.
I find it hard to believe that 75-100 bucks for a high quality Gi is expensive. If you saved 10 dollars a month, you could get a brand new Gi every christmas. It ain't that much money.
Besides, you say you have a Ouano Single weave? Hi, that's the same price as my Machado single weave. And a HCK Double is like 150, so I don't know what you're talking about.
Jules:
Ummm, again, to me 100 isn't alot to spend on a gi. It's clothing that is higher quality and higher usage than regular clothes. Pants down at the mall or wherever are 40 bucks, a shirt is like 25... it's not that much different, especially considering the design and craftsmanship that goes into a Machado.
But anyways, the Machado gi's are the price they are because they are super high quality, incredible durability, and are designed specifically for BJJ. Maybe TKD or Karate gi's are cheaper because they aren't being grappled. I don't know.
But if I sound like some sort of "Baller" because I have 2 gi's that cost me 75 for one and 100 for the other... um, not sure what to say to that.

LOL Dempsy i was joking around...... simmer down!
BTW I got my HCK double from nhbgear.com a few years ago on sale for about $130.... no extra charge for blue.
Jules, grappling gi's cost more than TKD/Karate gi's because they are woven much more and have to stand up to constant pulling and stretching. When I first started BJJ I was using my old karate gi, the thing was wore out so fast, especially the back cloth was wearing very thin just after a few months.

Machado's come from Rio in Brazil. I am friends with Luciana Machado, the owner/operator of Mkimono's. Can't really speak for others, but I can tell you that they absolutley do not just smack on a logo and jack up the price.
I guess you just need to see one in real life to understand. The Machado's are works of gi art. You're paying for more than just fabric and sewing, you're paying for the design, the durability, the craftsman ship. My teacher has a machado single that is about 5 years old that is still going strong, he loves it and can't do without it

Dempsy, how much was the shipping charge? I have noticed that mmagear.com is selling machado hybrids for $89 with free shipping while mkimonos is selling them for $100 and I believe there's a shipping charge.

I made the mistake of getting a "getto Gi", you know one that feels like a friggen Kevlar Vest. It is soooo heavy.. But then again it is used for training by the S.Korean University Judo students. All i can say is thank god that we did no-gi training during the summer....
