Are submission holds allowed in wrestling?

Unless your school is set up specifically for the title of 'submission wrestling' than the answer is, "No," most likely the school you attend is not geared towards submission holds to obtain victory. You would have to join a seperate group not affiliated with the school in order to get into submission wrestling.

Oh yeah, the spandex.... when you have a 2 time state champ putting you in a power half, you won't really be worried about what he is wearing.

ok fine you convinced me to go to the try outs anyway, even if they don't allow submission holds. But seriously teh spandex.....When the guy is up against you and you feel something soft rub up against your leg, you'd frek out too.

Nah submission holds arnt allowed.. Which pretty much means they can't "submit".... tap out.. anything of the WWE nature
But submissions can be used.. or atleast here in philly they can be. The object is ofcourse to pin your opponent, but when the visual VHS training is presented it's usually to exploit different submission moves for your use
Mind you it could just be here in philly.. but they highly recomend us to use submission holds that are legal to tire an opponent. the ref normally allows them for a certain ammount of time before we are told to release.. or ofcourse poitns are presented for the escapes

In olympic wrestling you win if the opponent has both shoulders on the ground. This has nothing to do with submission
I'm not sure if you will like it ...

No submissions in greco-roman, freestyle or collegiate wrestling. For the most part, they aren't taught and most moves that could turn into a submission-inducing thing are not allowed (keylock, body figure 4, head scissor, full nelson, barring the arm past 90 degrees, grasping 1 finger, chokes, etc).
Doesn't mean you won't ever get choked or feel like submitting out there on the mat, but for the most part that stuff is prevented.
There are a number of subtle, painful moves you'll learn that are more about encouraging your opponent to go to the ground or roll over onto his back than to submit.
If you are into martial arts, definitely try out for wrestling. It's a great way to add a ton of skills to any stand-up punching/kicking style. With wrestling, you can win most street fights without hurting yourself or your opponent. With wrestling combined with bjj submissions and some striking style, you'll be close to the perfect MMA fighter.
