In answer to the original ? if Bruce Lee were to have competed in a nhb type competition, he would have done so with a total commitment, learning everything there was to know, JUST LIKE MOST OF THE FIGHTERS WHO WIN TODAY, while fighting in his weight class, Bruce would have been a top competitor, would he have been unbeatable, IS ANYBODY ???. not that i know of, but Bruce would have been VERY good.

I understand what you mean. I was looking at the gracies making the challenge which occured before Lee achieved notority. But hey even the best of us can make a slight error......and I am not even close to teh best

We can always agree to disagree as long as we each understand the others point of view, but on this subject I do think we are on the same page.

Maui Jim - dude, again to agree/disagree, that's cool, but show some respect for the man. Its not like he was david carridine (sp??) in Kung Fu (yes I know he was supposed to get the role) my point is that he was a ligitimate MA and a master in his own right and he did positively increase the perception of MA in this country and the world. I know he was an actor but a lot of real MA are actors that dosn't lessen their accomplshments.

I just saw this and thought I’d post. There are a lot of posts and I didn’t read them all so forgive me if I repeat someone else.

I voted yes but with the stipulation that he properly trained for it with grappling and etc, and he fought in weight class of course.

Because I was actively involved at the golden years I spared with the older Chinese that knew Bruce, so my view is parcel to how much they knew about Bruce and his background.
You should have seen some of Jimmy H. Woo's manuscripts of fighting.
Makes you wonder where Bruce got his inspiration to illustrating the fighting science.

Also Bruce did train in grappling. He was good friends with Gene Labelle and few other wrestlers and grapplers.

I thought Gene Labelle was a Judo expert not a wrestler.

Yeah I kinda threw all the grapplers into one pot. Shame on me!

Gene started in judo which is the shit by the way. Back in 1954 he won the National AAU Heavyweight Judo Championship and the USA Overall Judo Championship back to back.

Gene went on to train in boxing, and other martial arts but he also made a name for himself as a pro wrestler. He wrestled over about 25 years.

Anyway to make a long story short he was quite the stud.

All they guys who sat yes and are so shure about it, did you keep in mind that had he still been alive today, he would be almost 63 years of age, so chances are he would not survive
Or do you think he was so good that he woud still manage against fighters in their mid 20's to mid 30's? I don't

What makes you think Judo is the shits? If you were to ever be thrown on to pavement by a judo person you wouldn't be saying that on your way to the hospital.I don't think any grappling art is bad but I could say there are some bad stand up styles.

What we're talking about and what I should have been more specific about is if Bruce Lee was still a live and in his prime.

Of course we all know if he was alive he wouldn't be in his prime though. That's something that is obvious.

                      It's a hypothetical question.

I was saying just the opposite dude I think that Judo is totally bad ass! I think it’s awesome! Judo is the one martial art I would love to learn to finish my repertory of techniques so I could become a more complete fighter.

Toudiyama[NL] Also I am assuming since this is all theoretical anyway that he would be fighting while he was still in his prime.

So you mean when he was in his prime but I see poeple thinking he would have adjusted it to fit the needs of MMA
But did he ever compete to begin with, so we have something to compare, apart from some stories about some fights, not a lot is really know about his fighting abilities
He had insight, that's right, but he wasn't the only one.

As far as I kow he didn't train full contact like MT fighters do, so I don't see how people can think he would survive

Taken that most think Karate TKD kung fu snapkicks are useless in MMA and he did snapkicks, how could he survive

Seriously, I don't know but am just amazed at how shure people are he would kick ass in MMA

You make some good points here but I think Bruce (as a progressive thinker) would have adjusted his training to make himself more competitive in the MMA arena. Who’s to say he would compete at all. I really don't know but it seems to me that he wasn't interested in competition. He was more into taking martial arts and making it effective, and practical. He was a rebel and a self thinker that thought out of the preverbal box. He seemed much more interested in self-defense than anything else. He may have stubbed his nose at the NHB tourney’s and went about his business who’s to say.

However this thread is all theoretical and what might happen if he was here, or if the UFC/Pride was around then, so there is a lot of room to play with this.

The one thing I do believe is that he was a good athlete and he had an incredible mental toughness and that goes a long way. In the end who really knows what would happen. We are just giving our opinions.
