multiple style sparing is awesome.

I wasn't talking about against just one man,I meant it's physically impossible to take out several men with only one punch or kick.
In most cases a person won't be able to knock out even one person with just one hit,it's not like he would just stand there and let you hit him, however I know it's not impossible,it does happen just not often.
It's done all the time in fights. You see upsets all the time where the fighter loosing stands up and scores a haymaker hitting the stronger fighter dead in the chin and knocking him out.
True, but that's not just one punch, after all if he was losing the fight in first place and was on ground he obviously had already thrown at least one punch which didn't do him any good. That perhaps was his first punch since standing up again, where he knocks guy out cold, but not his first punch through out the whole fight.
I doubt he was losing a fight because he had gotten hit just once.
Now if you are talking about Bruce Lee fighting several men at one time he could easily take out 5 men "in the old days".
In movies you can do anything.Either way it wouldn't have been with just one punch or kick.
Now days everyone on the streets knows a little something. If he was to go up against 5 people now chances are he would be fighting 3 grapplers that would shoot in on his legs while the other 2 prolly being some martial artists or boxers would pound his ass.
True enough, but that could have happened back then as well.Martial Arts existed way before his time.Only difference is now many people in MA want to switch to MMA.
1V1 there are very few people alive today that stand a chance against him. There are a few Kenpo artists out there that are as fast as Bruce was with his hands but Bruce was exqually as fast with his feet.
I tend to disagree. How fast Bruce Lee really was,no one knows.People believe what they want to or what media has made Bruce Lee out to be.Unless you knew him personally it's impossible to say how fast he was but it definitely wasn't as fast as media says. It's physically impossible for anyone to be that fast even if he were the best as people claim. In my opinion he was a great martial artist no doubt, due to his phylosophy and theories about martial arts but as far as sparring, which he was against,he was no more then an actor.
You guys are arguing about UFC and this and that it's not worth it. But I did agree with mui about his comment on the UFC's. I would like to see someone thats talkin bad about the UFC's and how unrealistic it is with the rules. Yes there are rules but it's basicly no holds fighting without the girly biting, fish hooking and kicking people while they are down. You can throw any kind of punch kick elbow knee standing up and do it all on the ground as long as you are grappling.
Nice to know we agree on this subject.
Any of you ever fought in a ring at all?
Yep,I've fought in a ring before, not UFC one though.I'd like to one day.
Checkout my website budd,I also have an actual martial arts chat room in there.

re
Lee did in fact knock out several persons with one punch each, or with one series of WC chain punches each. He also sidekicked a would-be challenger across his backyard. ASK DAN, DAMMIT!
Lee would lose to Keith Hackney or Bas. But Lee was better than an average martial artist.

I think a more relavent question would be if Bruce were around, would he be cross training more grappling into his training regimine...and I believe he would.
He was an awesome athlete and martial artist...and he didn't leave any loose ends, he'd be doing MMA.
Now Mas Oyama....would probably stick to stand up.
Now those two guys were tough as nails.
How do you guys thing Mas could have done against an MMA fighter? Remember the man killed bulls for shits and giggles.

Originally posted by medic06I remember reading an interview with Wally Jay. Jay said that he once pinned Bruce and Bruce couldn't do anything to get out. He also said that he admired Wally's skill but he felt grappling took too long.
He refused to accept the syndrome of training into a single style MA which was the norm back than. Most of members of this forum like me are too young to experience MA clubs that will ban members for crosstraining (meaning going to another MA clubs some new tricks), Bruce Lee broke the taboo and started a trend.
He was a profesionnal actor and I think he will never took part in any modern MMA event as we know them: not enough money!

Well said. Bruce Lee was a good fighter but he was aslo a student just like any of us were. As far as Bruce Lee being pinned anyone can do that to a small chinese man of 125 pounds.
I will say this though. Before Bruce Lee died he was training at my studio under Gene Labell learning grappling skills really well. I seriously doubt pinning him would do much good at that point in time.

What???
What are talking about? You are looking at Bruce Lee the actor and not the man. As the statement no one really know's what he would be like in a real fight is insane. He was being challenged all the time in real life and won. The very concept of JKD was born out of the fact he was in a REAL fight and he felt it took to long 3 min I believe. Now there are most certianly people that are alive and training that knew him and trained with him. And I have trained with some of them and they most certianly can attest to his skills and prowess as a fighter.
Also the very essence of JKD is a real street savy martial program. There are no contests/ sport in JKD as it detracts to the very heart of reality training. He was training in mixed martial arts in the 60's. Even in the Tao of JKD there are depictions of ground fighting.
Now looking past the age thing and saying he was to agree and he was in his mid 30's if he were to enter the UFC in the beginning before all the changes I think he would certianly win and suprise people. But as it stands today with all the rules and weight classes; A: he wouldn't agree as it defeats the purpose of No Rules, B: as you mentioned he is a 5.5 small Chinese man and to fight someone the size of M. Coleman, or M. Kerr or any other of the bigger guys that have been around as the sport (for a lack of a better word) eveolved. No you would have to assume he would have eveolved with the art as he was constantly changing his approach to techniques almost on a daily basis.
Another thing the Lee you see on screen is nothing like the person that would fight for real. He had talked about that before he died. But real fighting isn't pretty and wouldn't look good on screen, especially back in the 60's - 70's. Even in Enter the Dragon the very beginning Lee took his opponent down and submitted him. But a lot of people didn't really understand what was going on back then and fixate on the high spinning kicks.
But you people need to realize that the UFC is a relitively new concept in the U.S. They have been having NHB or MMA fights in Japan, Brazil and Thailand to name a few for years before the UFC or even PRIDE.
And whose to say that if Lee didn't die when he did he wouldn't have created an NHB type of competition 1st or at least before the UFC. Heck the UFC was only created for the Gracie family to prove to the U.S. masses that ground fighting was a critical part of the martial arts that had been missing from most of martial arts training. As Rickson had already won the Vale Tudo matches in Japan for a few years and countless matches in Brazil before that. Royce was chose to be the representive to showcase there art to us.
