  • a one grip de ashi barai- Does it really work?

Quick question for any judo/jitsu students who know their stuff: Has a single grip (maybe high sleeve or lapel grip) de ashi barai ever worked for you in randori or competition (when your opponent is resisting you)?

I dunno about one handed. I guess it could work one handed if you timed it just right.

My judo instructor did it to me quite a bit when I first started. I stopped crossing my feet so much and took a wider stance.

As an aside; Mr. Poopy, What IS that avatar of yours supposed to be? I've been trying to figure it out for days.

It's not related to my nick.

It's Mother Brain from the original 8bit NES game Metroid.

Metroid is one of my favorite series of games.

It is a great randori or competition opener.

When you come in gripping grab a left handed mid lapel grip and jerk them to you. Someholy shit batmanholy shit batmanholy shit batmanes you can pick up the leg with your left foot or get a clean sweep.
