  • beginning muay thai

well, not yet. this summer i will start. i live in stillwater, ok right now, going to school. started taking TKD becasue it's the only thing around here(small town) and becasue i've been wanting to do martial arts forever. the place i really wanted to go was gibson's martial arts in tulsa but i moved here to go to school. well i'm transfering back this summer to a school in tulsa and started looking around at other arts. the 2 i was most interested in were jun fan and muay thai. i like the functionality of MT so i've decided to do that. got 2 school's in mind so i will check them both out, they teach pretty much the same thing. in fact the head instructor at one school was an assistant instructor at the other( his name's samuel f. adams). so i just thought i'd introduce myself because i'll probably be on here a lot looking for pointers.

Just take it nice and easy at first. I can't stress it enough!! I've been studying MT for, a little, over a month now and i'm totally hooked. Just be cool about training your shins, i went up against a bag that was to hard to soon and paid for it for almost two weeks. Also do plenty of warming up before you start throwing kicks, especially higher ones, i ended up with a suck ass pull in my lower back from bad form and not enough warming up. Just take it easy at first.

good luck man, this style makes you tough but not indestructable!!

be careful studying tkd if you want to go into muay thai. It will teach you bad, very bad, habbits and it will be hard to get out of them.

I do prefer Muay Thai over other forms but that doesn't mean you should stay away from other forms. Just realize why one form does something one way another a different way. Traditional Thai fighters might say that western boxing has bad habits but most Thai fighters have implimented Western boxing techniques into their style. The more tools you have the better fighter you will be, you just need to know what tools are best for what situations. Good luck.
