What do most MT guys think about partner drills? I.E. opponent throws a jab, I counter in a variety of ways. Speed and timing is varied in between reps.

I use them all the time. They are a great way to familiarize yourself with your technique. Start off light and slow, build up to full speed, full contact. Its the next best thing to sparring....

I just realized that I didnt write in my post that I am aware of the attack that my opponent will throw. Is this the same as what you are referring too?

Yes, both partners know exactly what each other are doing. Think of the partner drills as a natural progression which should lead into using a technique, or combination, in sparring.
When you first learn a technique, you should learn to shadowbox with it. Then, you should progress to performing it on the heavy bag. After being able to make it work consistantly on the heavy bag, you should move onto pad drills (Thai pads/focus mitts/etc). Then move onto a "live" drill with a partner. Then progress to sparring.
Mind you, that is the IDEAL way of doing things.

I love those type of drills man. I read a couple of MT books that have some nice chapters about drills that go from beginner stuff to advanced such as adding counter hits and such.
