  • Boxing bag

I'm planing on getting a boxing bag in my backyard however my dad pointed out a little flaw in what i'm planing. I have a backyard without a roof and i was wondering if you know any heavy bags that are waterproof coz i dont want to spend money then in the end throw out the bag, Any sugestions would be appreciated.

    why leave it out?

Why leave it out after you're done training? You can take it down after you're done training and put it back up every time you want to train. I would reccomend one of the rock climbing clips that are guranteed to hold 300+ pounds because they make it easy to accomplish this. Granted, friction from repeated use will eventually wear down the clip but they are inexpensive. When I say eventually wear down I mean a year to two years of use.

i thought about that idea. However knowing myself i'll know that i wont take it down all the time. Or i wil be too lazy to put it up. Is ther like someway i can find a weatherproof bag or something like that?

I guess you could try the vinyl bags, and make sure you armor all them. But, if you are going to be disciplined enough to train, then carry that over into putting the bag up after each use. Either way will work though.

If you are going to buy a bag, don't buy a vinyl one! Buy a leather one or at the very least, a synthetic leather one. Much more durable...

my concern is how a bag will handle rainy weather more then my punches.

Build a roof or be disciplined enough to take the bag down each time you finish with it. This is not a difficult problem to solve but if you want to train and keep a bag that isn't a total piece of shit, you need to have a little discipline, period. I'm of the old school....you gotta work for it if you want it and moving a heavy bag takes 2 minutes. Put the time in...

I had to pick up my bag and carry it on + off whenever I wanted to train while living with my parents cuz my mom has a lil office downstairs where my bag holder is.

But, lemme tell ya; carrying that bag all the time will contribute to a lil workout for you. Sure, it's a pain in behind, but you gotta do what you gotta do if you want to train.

BTW, don't get those freestanding heavybags ... they suck. Once you build enough power, one good kick will knock it down or wobble it pretty crazily.

                    Good luck,

One option would be to get an all weather cover for the bag, and put it on when you are done. Change in temperature will still affect it, as will the humidity changes, but it would get direct contact of the moisture down. For instance, a plastic "slip-cover" for your heavy bag setup. Basically a tarp that wraps around the bag. Perhaps a cheapy pop tent would work, as it has a loop that you could tread the chain through. I'll be facing the same problem at my new place.
