  • If Tyson enters K-1 or MMA who should he fight?

Fantasy fight pick here. If Tyson fights in K-1 or an MMA event, which fighter would make the best show?

A K-1 fight with Sapp would be huge in Japan, but would make Tyson one of those super-brawl type fighters that only fights giant football players and former sumo.

A K-1 fight against cro-cop would be interesting. Cro-cop is a south paw and can kick hard. If Tyson were to do well against Cro-cop, he would instantly become an established K-1 fighter and not a super-brawl type fighter.

An MMA fight against Vovchanchyn would be cool. Vovchanchyn is a power puncher. It would be interesting to see him trade with Tyson. I think Tyson would have the upper hand though.

An MMA fight againt Tank would be a super-brawl event, but answer an important question all fight fans are wondering. Whom hits harder?

An MMA match against Royce Gracie would be like the days of UFC old. Two different weight classes and styles of fighters. Tyson has great balance, but can he defend the takedown? Can Royce avoid taking shots against Tyson?

    Tyson in K-1 or MMA.

Competition: Tyson vs. Cro-op: I do not know much about this fighter, but from what I have heard that he is one of the best, and if Mike wants to be taken seriously, this would be the fight for him.

Money: Tyson vs. Bob Sapp: I have heard that Sapp is not really a great fighter, but due to his physical gifts he is a superstar in the MMA world. This would be the biggest draw, as seen by posts and articles on this possiblity. If Tyson fought anywhere near how he used to fight, this would not be much of a contest.

All-Time: Tyson vs. Royce Gracie(Both in their primes, not now): A match up for the ages. One of the greatest strikers against one of the greatest grapplers. Tyson's raw power and speed against Gracies technique and precision. The key would be to how they responded to one another. If Tyson fights aggressively he could easily KO Gracie. If Gracie showed his clutch skill to overcome physically superior foes, he would win.

Bottom line is: Tyson would not have to learn Muay Thai, Kickboxing or any other art fully, just enough to defend against their strengths

    Strikers: Low Kicks

    Grapplers: Takedowns

I have not seen a fighter in MMA or K-1 with the punching power of Tyson yet. Look what he did to Francois Botha a while back(KO 1 round) and he is in K-1. Some would say Tank Abbott, but Tank did not use sound technique, Tyson is a trained boxing talent, who KO'd people with gloves on.Wwe have never seen him hit with them. So if you have seen his fights in the past, how do think that the MMA and K-1 fighters would hold up to his power. He also had exceptional speed and techique within his boxing style(Peek-A-Boo slugger). True he is not what he used to be, but he can still hit, look what he did last year to his last oppoennt(KO 49 seconds into the match) at his age.

If he is not kept at bay with low kicks, or taken to the ground, most of these fighters would not stand much of a chance, unless they trained extensively in defensive style Boxing.

      Tyson vs. Williams

Williams is good enough to punch with tyson, but he still has the ability to stay outside and kick, and he has good knees, witch i think tyson could get hit with if he comes inside carelessley. I think williams would be the best match for tyson, and the next would be bonjasky

        Tyson vs. Williams

True Williams is a hard puncher, but not as hard as Tyson, especially in his prime. Williams would have to kick alot to keep him at bay. I doubt he could go toe to toe with Tyson for long. Tyson use to have exceptional footwork(although not dancing like similar to Muhammad Ali but effective), especially at lunging steps to get inside off of opponent's punches. Tyson was also an exceptional at slipping and bobbing, which would have made him a difficult target for any puncher of any art to strike consistently. Tyson was also in exceptional physical condition to last

Tyson was a devastating fighter in his style with his physical gifts. He is not invincible, as we have seen in the past, but he is still one of the most difficult opponents for anyone of any Martial Art to beat one on one, especially if you have no technical knowledge of how to defend against Western Boxing techniques(Which would go for any style if you have never examined it before).

Tyson hit hard and fast and was relentless. Now he is more vunerable due to his age, and the ramifications of the bad decisions he has made over the course of his career that has severly hampered his mastering his full potential and damaged his place in boxing history.

A Mixed Martial Artist with solid boxing skills and exceptional takedown skills would have the best chance of defeating Tyson in his fighting peak.

I'm not a promoter (to care about what is the biggest crowd draw)
or a MMA expert (so I'll refrain from expressing my opinion on MMA matchups)

Instead I'll tackle this on the principle of the most balanced (in my opinion) fight.

So I voted Tyson Vs Hoost (two legends, same age group, comparable experience, stamina - or lack of clear advantages on different areas (box vs kick) but also no marked deficiencies for any fighter, provided Tyson takes at least a 3 month intensive kick handling preparation)
Also both would hate to to out a loser and would probably give it their all (as representatives of two worlds)

Other K-1 option not viable in my opinion for different reasons (unless someone of course thinks to "prove" a point by making an intentional mismatched fight):
Sapp = I won't even go into that again, it would be a farce (and he will most probably need serious medical attention)
Abidi = Also not open to serious debate, his hand tecnique, defense is terrible and the mentality is all wrong (he'll be KO'd for sure)
Cro-Cop = one of the fighters I like, complete standup fighter, but he does tend to get intimidated if he takes a couple of good blows (and he WILL get hit if he faces Tyson). Also I don't like the idea of piting a fighter in his prime against a fighter who's on the way out (what would it prove either way?)
Bonjasky = maybe in 2 years (but by that time Tyson will most probably be even more downhill). Let's face it, Bonjasky has been lucky (maybe pampered?) so far. He's the up and coming "big star" and he's being protected by promoters (saved for later), building his reputation against inferior opponents. After I've seen him fight against Ignasov/Cro-Cop/Hoost/Aerts or any of the heavyweights from New Zealand maybe I'll think differently, but if he fights an even moderately prepared Tyson NOW, he's in for more than he can handle (they wouldn't let him risk the pretty face anyway )

Hoost = my choice for reasons above (end/beginning or era type of fight)

Ignashov, i forgot about Ignashov. I like Ignashov and i think he is one of the best k1 fighters, i like his style. From the few fights of his that i have seen he would have trouble with tyson. But i think if he changed his training a little he could beat tyson. His kicks are so powerful and fast, i think, i he could survive a couple of tyson attacks he would KO tyson, assuming tyson is not fully prepared for kicks, and is still fighting like a boxer.

Would have loved to see a tyson vs tank fight. The guy is a huge blowhard and he always said whenever he got the chance that he could be a pro boxer if he wanted to.

Tyson would waste him inside of a minute.

I think a Silva vs tyson or cro cop vs tyson would be a good fight. Gracie would destroy him, Mike would have no clue what to do in a fight with him. Unless mike got a good clean blow off before gracie took him down the fight would be over.

I would love to see him fight Gracie. I'd pay extra if Tyson wore a gi.

no way in hell will there ever be a royce gracie vs. mike tyson. For one royce is pretty much retired he may do a fight here or there but he has way too many injuries to take on someone as big and powerful as tyson again. he never really fully recovered from his fight with kimo, and besides we are talking MIKE TYSON here you put grappling gloves on him he will KILL somone. hoost has always had a problem with powerful punchers, cro cop is bad, but I would bet tyson gets him against the ropes and beats him so badly he goes home after a month in intensive care.

Nobody's mentioned Le Banner!! He's due back soon and in interviews is baying for Tysons blood! He says Tyson is a sham cos he won't fight under full K1 rules but says that whatever the rules he will still kick da shit outta him. I've a feelin Le Banner is gonna go all Travis Bickle on K1 when he returns and get rid of all the new blood that should be performing in the circus. Bob Sapp- I'd start picking a nice little plot in your local graveyard

well Lebanner has a lot of skills but he has a very bad jaw. If he gets hit with one solid punch the fight is over. He never recovers. He always dominates the fight if he can avoid a blow. But if he gets hit its done and I am pretty sure tyson can hit him once....

I can pretty much gurantee no one in K-1 or mma hits as hard as Tyson, the only person I give a CHANCE of surviving the fight would be Botha, simply because he is the only one who has ever proven that he can survive a full out boxing match (not with tyson of course, but that could have been a fluke) everyone else, I will have to remember to send flowers to their families.

I don't think its Le Banner's chin per se- more that he can get too aggressive and leave huge gaps in his defence. The man has fought a couple of professional boxing fights so I think his chin should be up to the task if he justs concentrates a bit on defense. I know many people don't rate Le Banner as a kicker but I think this is because his awesome punching power overshadows all else. He is actually a v.good kicker- no CroCop but good all the same. If I thought he was just a good boxer I wouldn't rate him against Tyon cos no K1/MMA fighter can beat Tyson at his own game. [ That includes Williams btw ]

                              Tyson the Myth

In my opinion if Mike Tyson learns just a little bit how to protect himself from kicks and knees he would knock down most of the fighters in K1, if it comes to boxing no one stands a chance to even last few seconds, only very few heavy weight boxers could really defeat him, and we know that it happened when Tyson was no longer the real beast he used to be, I would have loved to see what would have been the outcome if Evander Holyfield or Lennox Lewis were to Fight Iron Myke when he was still at his peak. In any case Tyson is always Tyson and I am sure that in most cases we will see him causing some serious damage, his power and boxing skills are just on much higher level of anyone who competes in K1.

                              "April 19, 2004.
Jose Sulaiman Chagnon, President of the World Boxing Council deeply regrets the fact that the great world ex heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is thinking of the possibility of contending in a sport known as K1 which represents a huge and regrettable return to the most savage times in which respect to human life did not exist at all, as this 'sport' is one of the most violent and less humane practices anyone can ever witness."

Please give your comment on this!

I don't see that much diffrence between the two sports, in both the logic is exactly the same... KNOCK DOWN THE OPPONENT USING THE ART OF FIGHTING!
