  • Integrating Kung Fu with Muay thai

I'm goin to a school where the strategy is 1st we learn muay thai (so we ge the idea of how to fight) then we begin to integrate it with Kung Fu does this make any sence to any one?

That's interesting. What style of martial art is this called? Sanshou is muy thai + side kick + spinning kicks + takedowns, but its not really muay thai + kung fu.

    Tell me more.

I've heard some JKD schools work muay thai and Wing chun prinicples. It can't be any worse than that.

I'm undecided. Muay Thai is awesome. But exchange the closed fist for other hand positions and it is better.

Bri, I guess it depends on which arts hand techniques you choose from.

If you were to keep the muay thai stance, foot work, kicks and clinch control techniques, but replace the closed fist punching with palm, knife hand and other hand variations from arts like choylifut/wingchun/shaolin animal it could get interesting.

As I understand it Muay Thai used to be no gloves in hte first place. They put the gloves on to reduce the deaths in the sport!

Much of my own training depends on MT style movement, with open handed strikes.

Come on! I'll take ya ALL on!

                southeast asian boxing

I think the real combo is to mix Filipino boxing into the Thai curriculum.

                  Are you talking about panantukuan?

How is it different than regular western boxing?

i think Muay Thai Leg Training exercises only on how to make strong and powerful legs to integrate it with kungfu.....

                    remember:
Muay Thai Leg Training Exercises only and nothing more..... since all Leg attacks of Muay Thai is also found in KungFu Kickings... especially the 72 KungFu Leg Attacks of the Shaolin Systems.......

And, of course, the 22 to 2 ratio of my punch to your punch convinced!

my rice is better than your rice

My first Thaiboxing instructor (and kali/silat instructor) noted that all Asian countries have rice, the main difference is that they prepare it differently.
In this case, I prefer Thai rice. Filipino and Indonesia rices are quite good as well. It is my sense, however, that most of the East Asian rice varieties suffer from "classical mess" syndrome.
That is, I don't put a lot of faith in "founding myth" type martial arts histories, especially by martial artists who aren't historians.

Oh yes, just to let you know, I am an academically trained historian as well as a ring trained Muay Thai artist.

Does that mean you fight with your rectum?
