  • Muay Thai or Submission fighting?

If you had a choice between two equally good schools with the first teaching Muay Thai and the second teaching Submission fighting( incl. MT, BJJ, wrestling, and boxing) what would you choose??

I have always loved MT but with all the hype nowdays about BJJ am thinking that it might not be a bad idea to learn some other styles.

I'm looking to start fighting with in the next year or so and can't decide weather i would prefer MT bout's or cage matches. Any suggestion's from fighter's out there who have fought in both the ring and the cage??

      pick up both!

I suggest that if you are already good in Muay Thai to start taking classes in BJJ as well, it just add to your skills, I remember an Ad that used to say "two flavours are better than one". I started Pancrase five years ago after I lost cause I was cluless in grappling!
Muay Thai is great but not enough if you have to fight who's skilled in garappling!
Better start with the ring, the cage is a bit tougher!

Thank you. I think I will start in the ring but wouldn't that suggest I stick with the Muay Thai? It would be silly to train in Submission's and then fight MT or kickboxing rules, unless you men't full contact(Vale Tudo) ring matches? Either way thank you for taking the time to post.

I am sorry maybe I am misunderstanding you, where are you good already Muay Thai or BJJ?
Why would you think that if you start in the ring then you have to stick to the ring? Why not be versatile and be able to do both! It's a good thing to have both experiences and be able to switch from one to the other with ease, then you will realize that you reached a lot of control!
I suggested that if you are already good in Muay Thai, I think it's best to start in the ring, I don't know how familiar you are with competitions. Anyways if you have never been on a ring with hundreds of people watching, I'd suggest you start with MT in the ring, The first time in the ring with an audience is quiet tough, but nothing to compare with if your first time is in the cage!
In any case, if you feel confident about the cage and you are more advanced in BJJ then go for it!

I agree fully about being versatile. I just men't that currently i do Muay Thai and that if i intend on fighting MT rules in a ring that i while stay at the school i'm at intead of switching to the submission style of fighting which would be beter suited to NHB or cage fighting.

            Sorry about the misunderstanding.

I have not been in a ring before but look forwrad to the prosepct. I think i will take your advice and stick with MT for now and maybe after a couple fight's start cross training with BJJ and then possibly try some cage fights.

I read your thread on boxiado and I saw his reply, now I understand what he meant by what he said. You are a back stabber, you make friend with him in this thread and you showing another face in that thread.
              No dignity!

              Peace
