Don't be ridiculous. Neither the western boxer nor the muay thai boxer can throw a hadoken fireball. However, the muay thai boxer can throw really fast tiger shots. BUT if the western boxer has been charging his turn punch a long time, and was ready for the tiger shot, then the thai boxer is dead!

The real question is who would win between a Tae Bo student and a Boxercise student.
      What, no Jazzercise?

This is probably a stupid poll, because the Muay Thai fighters have been trained to use elbows, knees and feet. However, I wonder if western boxing's punching is superior? I am going to begin taking classes very soon and I have really been torn between MT and Western Boxing. If I could, I would take a mixture of western boxing AND muay thai. The western boxers superior punching ability with muay thai's kicking, elbowing and kneeing techniques. Throw in some BJJ down the road and you got a pretty good set up.
Both for sure, I'd say, but I'd rather take boxing as the foundation, then add in the elbows and knees from MT.

just like to point out that since Ramon Dekker, this is how pretty much every thai boxing gym trains.

            Thai-boxing
muay thai ....with western gloves...and "western" style punches.
Every muay thai fighter and trainer I know will isolate boxing at one point during a days training, if not, every other day, so that they only work hands. And if they're throwing a cross...guess what...it's a cross...a jab...you bet that they're throwing a jab.
Sometimes with better form than some amatuer boxers.

What's the real difference...okay, a muay thai guy's stance is more open, right, to bait for kicks and long knees...and at this range they use their open hand inside the glove to stop a punch, or parry with the forearm...but when their inside boxing range...boxing stance, with right handed parries...and then to clinche.

Same punches as western boxing, just different application, and a few more tools (depending on how creative or ecclectic the boxer's training is) as far as the hand techniques go.

Also, sometimes the hands are higher to parry with the forearm like you said, but also to keep the hands high enough for a quick clinch and to slam elbows.

I trained with Ramon Dekkers and Rob Kaman back in the days, it was the best teaching for me. Ramon was a great boxer, but his left middle kick was a bomb... Rob Kaman had the best timing ever!! Andre Mannart was another excellent fighter... they all had excellent boxing which was the key in many of their victories!!

A boxer might have a good chance because, MT fighters has their hands too high protecting their heads n not protecting their bodies. So a boxer will step inside n start hitting the body. Also MT fighters legs are kind of straight and they wont be very mobel to get away when a boxer steps in.

Sot Chitalada was probably the Thai-boxer who made the most out of a transition to western boxing. his footwork was some of the best and his ability to slip and counter was also second to none.

Francisco "Pancho Villa" Guilledo was one of the first boxers from the Phillipines to make a mark in western style boxing beating the deceptively powerful "Jimmy Wilde"

i found a link to an interesting account about the impact of the Pinoy influence on western boxing.

                                Hey Sherwinc

Always brilliant answers I see.... a 6 hand attack sounds like a very effective technique! I always wondered how I would be able to fight against six guys at one time... you cleared it up for me now!

Just one question, what style should I practice to grow four extra arms? thanks for the help!!
